An Understated Dominance - Chapter 2389
After the quarterfinals, everyone took a much-needed break. As noon approached, contestants and spectators alike looked for food and water to recharge.
An hour later, the venue was alive with excitement as Oron stepped onto the battle ring. He was joined by a disciple from the Sacred Wrym Summit, who held a black box filled with numbered balls.
“It’s almost time. I’d like to invite the top four contestants to the ring to draw lots,” Oron announced, scanning the crowd.
With enthusiastic applause, four contestants climbed onto the battle ring one by one. First was Glenn, followed closely by Fenley, then Abigail, and finally Dustin.
“Sir, we’re in the semifinals! Good luck!” Abigail playfully winked at Dustin as she entered the ring.
“You too,” Dustin replied with a smile.
Abigail knew her chances against Glenn were slim because he was a strong opponent. However, if she faced Fenley, she felt she had a better chance of winning. Fenley had just reached the ultimate grandmaster level, while Abigail had been at that level for almost a year.
With her Phoenix bloodline fully awakened, her abilities were at their best. If she had a few more years to grow, her future would be bright.
“Glenn, I hope we get paired together for an epic showdown,” Fenley said, determination in his eyes.
In Fenley’s mind, Abigail and Dustin didn’t matter. He saw Glenn as his main rival. If he could beat Glenn, the championship title would be within his grasp.
“You should give up on that idea; you’ll end up losing badly,” Glenn replied, unfazed. To him, Fenley was not a serious threat.
At that moment, Dustin caught Glenn’s attention. He had learned that Dustin was Seth’s disciple. Glenn also knew about the tension between Seth and the Sword Union. A year ago, it had caused quite a stir.
Glenn remembered how he had tried to challenge Seth before, but it had ended in disappointment. Now, meeting Seth’s disciple, Dustin, sparked a competitive fire within him. Dustin had been performing impressively, and Glenn knew he couldn’t ignore that.
“Hmph! I know you’re strong, but beating me won’t be easy,” Fenley sneered. With his ultimate grandmaster skills and the unpredictable Four Elements of God’s Technique, he felt ready to take on anyone. He thought to himself, “So what if you’re at the top of the Legendary List? Today is the day for a new champion.”
“You’ll see the difference between us soon enough,” Glenn replied sharply. He preferred to let his actions speak for themselves; strength would be proven in the battle ring, not through empty words.
“Semifinalists, please draw your lots,” Oron announced loudly.
The match-up rules were simple: the first contestant would face the last.
“I’ll go first!” Fenley declared and stepped forward to draw a numbered ball from the black box. This time, he held it up high for everyone to see. He had drawn the number four and then stepped aside.
Abigail looked around and saw that neither Dustin nor Glenn had moved. So, she stepped up and pulled a ball from the box.
“I got number three,” she said confidently, raising her ball.
Fenley chimed in, “Good thing you’re not up against me. At least now you have a chance at the finals.”
According to the rules, contestant number one would fight contestant number four, while contestant number two would face contestant number three.
“Look who’s talking,” Glenn shot back. “You’re the weakest here, yet you have the loudest mouth. Do you even know what ‘reality’ means?”
“What does ‘check’ mean?” she snapped back.
Dustin and Glenn were ranked at the top of the Legendary List, while she held the second position. Fenley, on the other hand, was ranked fifth.
He was the weakest among the four, yet he acted so arrogantly. It was surprising how unaware he was of his own weaknesses.
“Hmph! You short-sighted fool!” Fenley glared at Abigail. Before his recent improvement, he might have doubted his abilities. But now, with his new strength, he was full of confidence.
After Abigail completed her turn, Dustin stepped up to draw from the box. When he saw the number he picked, he sighed in frustration.
He had drawn the number two, which meant he would have to face Abigail in the ring. Since they had a mentor-student relationship, this match was not what Dustin had hoped for.
Dustin’s number two left Glenn with number one. When Glenn showed his number, the crowd buzzed with excitement.
Contestant number one would fight contestant number four. This meant the first match would be Glenn against Fenley.
Both were favorites to win the tournament, and the crowd was electric with anticipation for the opening match.
“Glenn! Finally, we can fight and see who’s the best,” Fenley said, grinning and feeling his adrenaline rise. He was already pumped up even before the fight began.
Glenn kept a serious expression. “You’re unlucky to be facing me,” he replied.
“Really? I see it as lucky. Once I beat you, I’ll take the top spot on the Legendary List,” Fenley said, filled with determination.
“Keep dreaming,” Glenn responded coldly.
“Words don’t matter. Let’s settle this in the ring,” Fenley declared.
Glenn’s eyes shone with determination.
Noticing the tension between the two fighters, Dustin and Abigail quickly stepped out of the battle ring to give them space.
With the opponents chosen, it was time for action—no more showmanship was needed.
“Are both contestants ready?” Oron asked, looking at them.
When they both nodded, he raised his hand and declared, “Semifinal match one—Glenn Hadley versus Fenley Hudson. Let the fight begin!”
