The man in the long-sleeved shirt kept his head down and didn’t reply.

“Hmph! How disappointing,” she said with a smirk.

“Ms. Grant bids 800 million. Are there any other bids?” the auctioneer asked, his tone indifferent. He realized that once Jayla revealed her identity, the thousand-year green lotus would be hers, as no one dared to challenge the Grant family.

Just then, a voice broke the tension. “One billion.”

Jayla turned to the voice and saw a chubby middle-aged man with his paddle raised. It was Roderick.

“What?” Jayla frowned, glaring at the two men beside her. She hadn’t expected them to challenge her after she shared her background.

“Who’s that guy? His courage matches his size. He actually dared to provoke the daughter of the Grant family,” one person said.

“He looks familiar. I think that’s Big Buck Brooks,” another replied.

“You’re right! It is Big Buck Brooks! I can’t believe he’s here!” someone else chimed in.

“So what if it’s Big Buck Brooks? He’s just rich. To powerful people, he’s nobody. If he disrespects the Grants, they could easily wipe out his family,” another added.

The crowd buzzed with surprise and disdain. Even though he was wealthy, they knew he didn’t have the strength to stand up to the Grants.

“Hey! Are you sure you want to fight me on this?” Jayla said, giving them a fierce look.

“What do you mean? It’s an auction, so we should stick to the rules where the highest bidder wins. Right?” Roderick replied confidently.

Tyler Grant was indeed powerful. Normally, Roderick would never think of crossing him. But things were different now. The man beside him was like a brother to Adam Spanner, and he had a prince for a father. With Dustin backing him, why should he be afraid?

“Alright, since you want to play this game, let’s play to the end!” Jayla’s expression hardened as she raised her paddle again. “1.2 billion!”

“1.3 billion,” Roderick countered.

“1.4 billion!” Jayla shot back.

“1.5 billion,” Roderick said.

“Two billion!” Jayla declared, raising the stakes even higher.

Jayla’s voice got higher, showing everyone that she was feeling anxious.
