Chapter 3410
After Serenity married Zachary, he became increasingly considerate and attentive, especially after she became pregnant. Concerned that she and the baby might be hungry, he made it a daily habit to check for snacks in her car.
While his attentiveness was endearing, it also made him somewhat fussy. Nonetheless, Serenity appreciated the kindness of her handsome husband, which warmed her heart.
If anyone were to marry, they should aspire to marry someone like Zachary. Serenity felt she had made the right choice.
“Would you like to pack two boxes of snacks? It will take a while to get back to Wildridge Manor from the city,” suggested the three elders, who were worried that Serenity might get hungry during the journey.
After considering their advice, Serenity decided to pack the snacks, mostly to ease their concerns.
As they were leaving, the group of four encountered Carrie, who was now presenting herself as Mrs. Labbe, accompanied by two bodyguards from the Labbe family.
“Mrs. York,” Carrie greeted Serenity with a smile upon seeing her.
Serenity paused, prompting Audrey and the others to stop as well. Both ladies scrutinized Carrie, having never interacted with her directly yet being aware that she had recently joined the upper-class circle of Wiltspoon. They had also seen her photographs.
“Mrs. Labbe,” Serenity replied with a polite smile. “What a coincidence to meet you here.”
Carrie returned the smile and echoed, “Yes, what a coincidence.” She then turned to Audrey and Mrs. Lewis, inquiring courteously, “Are these two ladies Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Lewis?”
“This is my aunt, and this is Aunt…”
“Lewis,” Serenity introduced.
Carrie greeted the two ladies warmly and appropriately, but they merely nodded in response, not offering a word or even a smile. Instead, they stared at Carrie intermittently.
Although she no longer felt stage fright in front of Zachary, Carrie felt uneasy under the scrutiny of two wealthy women who had once been influential figures in the business world. Even before the incident at home, her mother had always made an effort to impress these ladies.
Her mother was quite arrogant, and Carrie had developed a similar attitude. However, each time they attended a banquet, her mother would remind her to uphold the image of a lady in front of someone of noble status like Audrey. “Be generous and decent, and if you can’t please someone, at least don’t offend them,” she would say.
As for Elisa, the daughter of a wealthy family from the Stone Dynasty, her mother had advised her to keep her distance, warning that the Newman family could not afford to offend Elisa. Even if they believed Elisa was not a good person, they could not express that sentiment openly.
“Are the two ladies and the eldest young mistress leaving?” Carrie asked, trying to maintain her composure despite her unease. She kept reminding herself that she was now Mrs. Labbe, not Carrie. She was Mrs. Labbe, wearing an exquisite human skin mask that concealed her identity.
Even Camryn couldn’t prove she was Carrie.
With that thought, Carrie felt a slight sense of relief.
“Um,” Serenity replied. “Mrs. Labbe, we have something else to attend to, so we’ll be leaving first.”
