Chapter 3420
The butler approached Clarissa carefully and asked respectfully, “Madam, it’s time for your meal. Would you like to eat now or wait a bit longer?”
“I have no appetite and don’t wish to eat. Please leave me alone. I didn’t summon you, so don’t come in. I’m very annoyed,” Clarissa replied coldly, pacing the hallway as she smoked continuously.
The butler gently advised, “Madam, you haven’t eaten since your return. What will happen if you skip lunch?”
“I’ve already told you, I’m not hungry. If I decide to eat, I’ll do so without your urging. Please leave. There’s no need for you to wait here,” she insisted.
Reluctantly, the butler turned to leave.
He was unsure what difficulties Clarissa faced that had left her so upset.
In the past, when Clarissa was in a bad mood, Holden would always be there to cheer her up. She could vent her frustrations on him, and her spirits would lift.
This time, however, Holden was absent, unable to provide her with that emotional support.
When Clarissa was feeling down, those on duty had to tread carefully and serve her with caution.
No matter how flawed Holden was, they had been married for decades and shared many children and grandchildren. Yet, Clarissa found it impossible to forgive him.
In truth, Clarissa had controlled Holden too strictly. After being restrained for so many years, he eventually sought escape, not out of a desire to leave home, but because he felt trapped.
After his discharge from the hospital, Holden couldn’t return to live with her and had to stay in a small house owned by Marco. Additionally, Shiloh had died under mysterious circumstances.
The butler sensed that Clarissa’s poor mood had begun with Shiloh’s death.
Though Shiloh was not Clarissa’s biological daughter,
Her biological father was the one responsible for the separation of Clarissa and Kathryn. However, Shiloh was innocent; she was just born at that time and had no control over her fate of being replaced.

The Butler stepped out of the main house and walked a little further before taking out his cell phone to call Holden.
Holden quickly answered the Butler’s call.
“Butler, what’s wrong? Is Madam Farrell back?” Holden asked, expressing concern for Clarissa’s condition over the phone.
The Butler replied quietly, “Mr. Janzen, Madam returned a while ago. She didn’t inform us in advance of her arrival. It was so sudden that even the young lady was unaware. The young lady has been extremely busy lately and often works late into the night. She mentioned she was staying at the company, so she doesn’t even know that Madam has come back. The three young masters and mistresses haven’t returned home in the past two days.”
This indicated that after Clarissa’s return, no one in the family was aware of it.
The Butler suspected that the absence of the three young masters and mistresses might have angered Clarissa, but he didn’t dare to voice his thoughts.
Since Clarissa stated that she didn’t need to notify anyone of her return, it implied she felt no obligation to inform the young masters.
The Butler sensed that Clarissa was becoming increasingly difficult to manage, and her behavior was becoming harder to comprehend.
“Mr. Janzen, Madam has been wandering around the hall or sitting on the sofa, smoking continuously, occasionally making phone calls, and then throwing things. It seems she is facing some kind of problem.”
He wouldn’t feel so anxious, much like an ant on a hot pan.
The butler refrained from voicing this thought.
“Mr. Janzen, please return. Madam is in a foul mood, and you’re the only one who can lift her spirits.”
Holden grumbled inwardly. Would Clarissa scold him upon his return?
In the past, Clarissa had shown him some leniency. When he made an effort to soothe her, she would scold him as a way to vent her frustrations, but her mood would improve, creating the impression that he was the sole person capable of calming an upset Clarissa.
