Chapter 3422
Pedro arranged a hotel for her, but she chose not to go. Instead, she locked herself in the office and spent the night there. Tonight, she wanted to be in company, but she feared it might not go well.
“Butler, what’s the issue?” Kathryn asked the butler in a cold tone.
Hayden brought her a steaming cup of coffee and set it down in front of her.
She nodded in gratitude toward Hayden.
Hayden took a seat across from her but chose to focus on his work instead of responding to her.
She had to admit that Hayden was calm and composed, truly deserving of his position as the president of Queen Enterprise.
The butler said, “Miss, please return soon. Madam has refused to eat since last night and is in a foul mood.”
Kathryn paused for a moment before replying, “My mom not wanting to eat means she’s not hungry yet. Just leave her be. I have a dinner appointment with a client. If I cancel, I’ll just end up pushing the client to Ms. Hunt.”
Ms. Hunt referred to Liberty, a fact the butler was well aware of.
Kathryn wasn’t lying; she indeed planned to have dinner with Hayden later and would treat them.
“Madam isn’t hungry; she’s just in a bad mood. Miss, can you please leave? I’ll call the eldest master to check on her,” the butler said, sounding helpless.
Kathryn pursed her lips and suggested, “Tell my dad to go back. If my mom gets upset, she can say I was concerned and asked him to check on her.”
The butler replied, “I called Mr. Janzen, but he said Madam won’t let him come home, and he fears going back will only make her angrier.”
“I’ll tell my dad,” Kathryn said.
With that, she hung up the phone.
Placing the phone on Hayden’s desk, she picked up her coffee, took a sip, and said to Hayden, “Let’s have a meal together.”
Hayden, still engrossed in the documents, responded without looking up.
“I’m just waiting for you to treat me to a meal.”
After being away for ten days to half a month, Hayden returned to find an overwhelming stack of documents awaiting her attention. Hugh mentioned that he had been working hard but that too many unprocessed papers had accumulated.
He remarked that being the CEO was challenging and suggested it might be easier to be a vice president. He also acknowledged the significant burden Hayden had been carrying for him.
Inwardly, Hayden felt frustrated with Hugh’s slow pace. She could have handled these documents in no more than two days, yet Hugh claimed he would be busy for a week.
After Hayden’s return, numerous company managers voiced their complaints about Hugh’s inefficiency. They often had to remind him multiple times before he would sign off on their documents.
Hayden hadn’t yet found the time to check in with Hugh to understand what was happening. She chose to overlook the fact that she had been managing heavy responsibilities for many years. The Queen Enterprise was under her stewardship; she was well-acquainted with all the projects and could resolve issues swiftly.
While Hugh was capable, he was only temporarily managing the company. His daily busyness did not match Hayden’s efficiency.
As soon as Hayden was back, Hugh quickly offloaded all his responsibilities onto her. He then took a day off to enjoy himself, claiming he had been so busy that he hadn’t even had time to see his close female friends, who all missed him.
This made Hayden both laugh and feel exasperated.
Hugh, you little brat, you only know how to have fun.
Although he had many female confidants, it seemed he had yet to settle down. With so many close acquaintances, was there…
No one capable of entering his heart? Kathryn smiled, glanced at Hayden, and remarked, “After not seeing you for a while, Miss Queen, I feel you’ve become a bit more feminine.” Hayden replied calmly, “I am a woman.” She was simply accustomed to dressing like a man; even if her identity as a woman were revealed, she would continue to dress in a masculine style.
