Chapter 3427
Clarissa was exhausted from pacing back and forth, so she settled onto the sofa. An ashtray in front of her was already overflowing with cigarette butts.
“Madam,”
The butler entered from outside, walked behind Clarissa, and addressed her with respect.
Clarissa replied coldly, “What is it?”
The butler informed her, “Mr. Janzen has returned. Would you like me to let him in?”
Clarissa’s expression darkened. She retorted, “I didn’t invite him back; who told him to come here?”
The butler replied cautiously, “Madam, you seem upset. Mr. Janzen’s return might provide an opportunity for a conversation. In the past, during your difficult times, it was Mr. Janzen who stood by you. Regardless of his past mistakes, he is still your husband. After decades of marriage and many children and grandchildren, what can’t you overlook?”
Clarissa turned to glare at the butler.
The butler lowered his gaze under her intense stare, afraid to meet her eyes.
Initially, Holden opted to divorce her.
Clarissa had once believed that Holden possessed some honor, someone she could admire.
But he failed to uphold that belief. Instead, he sacrificed his dignity for the Janzen family and forfeited his manhood. So she felt no guilt about her own loss of face.
Clarissa felt a deep resentment when she reflected on the unhappy marriage she had endured for decades. Her eldest sister and her brother-in-law enjoyed a
had limited success. Despite her efforts, her subordinates failed to locate the nanny and the children. It was a major setback for Clarissa, who had hoped to eliminate any potential threats to her position.
The relationship she shared with her eldest sister’s husband was genuine; he had always cared for her deeply. Additionally, her eldest brother-in-law had shown her nothing but love and respect. Mr. Jimenez, who had been loyal to her, also had a special place in her heart.
Years ago, numerous assassins had been dispatched to kill Mr. Jimenez, yet none succeeded. Clarissa even took matters into her own hands, attempting to intercept and eliminate them, but her efforts were ultimately in vain. After that, there was no word from Mr. Jimenez, leading Clarissa to believe he had perished.
Decades went by, and she had come to terms with the idea that he was gone. It was a shock to learn that Mr. Jimenez was still alive, nearing a hundred years old. This revelation filled her with unease, as she realized it was only a matter of time before the truth about her sisters’ deaths would resurface.
Although many whispered rumors about her ascent to power being linked to her sisters’ deaths, there was no concrete evidence to support such claims. Clarissa chose to ignore the gossip, knowing it stemmed from those who envied her. As long as the older generation remained unaware, and the younger generation lacked knowledge about her past, she felt secure.
The only person privy to her dark secrets was the accomplice who had helped orchestrate the killings of her elder and younger sisters. Clarissa had, in her ruthless ambition, eliminated her entire family in one fell swoop. Her greatest regret was not thoroughly addressing the potential threats that remained.
She understood that to truly eradicate a problem, one must remove it at the roots. While she had been willing to eliminate her two nieces as well, her plans were thwarted when their nanny managed to escape with them, and her attempts to track them down yielded no results.
The nanny’s body was discovered, but the whereabouts of the two nieces remained unknown. No further updates followed.
If she did not address the root of the issue, trouble would continue to arise.
Now, decades later, the eldest niece, Audrey, has returned with her allies to seek vengeance.
“Madam, I will go outside and ensure Mr. Janzen leaves,” the butler said, no longer willing to speak positively about Holden.
If Clarissa does not wish to see Mr. Janzen, then she will not.
