Chapter 3428
When the butler turned to leave, Clarissa abruptly stopped him and commanded, “Let him in.”
She was in a foul mood, and being scolded was a welcome opportunity for her to vent her frustrations.
“Alright, I’ll go speak with Mr. Janzen.” The butler was pleased that Clarissa had heeded his advice and hurried outside to open the door for Holden.
As Holden stepped out of the car, he approached the butler and asked, “Has your madam had dinner?”
“She hasn’t eaten. It’s been a while since she’s had anything; she’s only been drinking water and smoking.” The butler sighed as he spoke. “I’m not sure what kind of issue she’s facing, but it must be serious if she’s lost her appetite.”
Though he had not served as a butler for long, he had been with the Farrell family for many years.
This was the first time he had seen Clarissa, the matriarch, in such a troubled state.
After a brief pause, Holden remarked, “Your madam is in a bad mood. Be cautious and try not to upset her. I’ll go in and check on her.”
After taking a few steps, Holden turned back, approached the car, opened the door, leaned inside, and quickly retrieved a bouquet of flowers along with a red bag.
Inside the bag was a set of jewelry.
Although the jewelry wasn’t expensive, it represented all the pocket money Holden had managed to gather from his three sons.
Seeing that Holden had remembered to bring flowers and a gift for Clarissa, the butler gave him a thumbs-up.
Shortly after Holden entered the house, Marco and his two brothers returned, followed by Kathryn.
Kathryn was the last to arrive.
The butler
He stepped outside again and waited for Kathryn to get out of the car. Following her into the house, he said, “Mr. Janzen and the three young masters have returned, but they still can’t convince Madam to eat. Miss, you need to take charge of the family. No matter what happens, you mustn’t let yourself go hungry.”
As Kathryn walked, she replied, “For my mom, it feels like the sky is falling right now.”
The assets that had been seized would soon be returned to her aunt’s descendants, which felt like a devastating blow to her mother.
The butler realized Kathryn was aware of the situation.
Concerned, he asked, “Miss, what’s going on? Has the company run into trouble? Is the capital chain broken?”
He worried whether Clarissa would still have funds to pay their wages.
If the Farrell Group ran out of money and couldn’t secure funds for operations, it would not only impact those in the company but also everyone working in the Farrell family mansion.
Kathryn glanced at the butler and reassured him, “Don’t worry about your salary; you will be fine.”
With that, she left him and hurried into the house.
The butler paused, his worry deepening.
From what Kathryn had said, it was clear there was a significant issue with the Farrell Group.
No wonder Clarissa was so distressed that she wouldn’t even eat.
It was indeed tough to survive these days; even a well-established entity like the Farrell Group, which had been operational for decades or even centuries, was at risk of bankruptcy.
The butler had already considered the possibility of the Farrell Group failing.
When Kathryn entered the room, she found her father and brothers trying to comfort her mother and coax her into eating a little.
Holden personally brought food to Clarissa and placed it in front of her.
However, how could Clarissa find any appetite for food that had been reheated multiple times?
At that moment, she didn’t even feel like eating at all.
freshly cooked dishes.
Clarissa couldn’t stand the idea that everything she possessed would revert to her sister’s family (Audrey’s family), leaving her devastated and her children with uncertain futures.
She felt no appetite whatsoever.
She didn’t want to eat; she was consumed by thoughts of eliminating Audrey’s family, Liberty and Serenity, silencing them all. If they were gone, her children would face no competition for their place in the Farrell family.
Unfortunately, unlike decades ago, surveillance cameras are now everywhere, making it impossible for her to act as she once did.
Moreover, her eldest niece (Audrey) and her family have their own supporters.
