Chapter 3429
“Dad, Mom,” Kathryn called as she entered the room.
Holden felt a wave of relief wash over him at the sight of Kathryn returning. He quickly urged her, “Kathryn, please try to convince your mother. She refuses to eat anything. No matter how serious the situation is, you need energy to tackle it.”
Holden appeared visibly distressed.
“Yes, Kathryn, please help persuade Mom. She won’t eat or drink anything,” Marco chimed in, along with his two brothers, echoing their father’s plea.
However, Marco felt a twinge of guilt upon seeing Kathryn. He had organized disturbances in Liberty and worried that she might discover this and inform their mother.
Without giving Kathryn a chance to sit down, Clarissa stood up and said firmly, “Kathryn, come upstairs. You cannot interrupt our conversation in the study without my permission.”
With that, Clarissa left behind Holden and the boys, who were anxious about her, and headed upstairs.
Kathryn followed her mother.
Holden watched them go, wanting to say something but hesitating.
Kathryn remained silent, and ultimately her father did not dare to speak up either.
Once in the study, Clarissa gestured for Kathryn to close the door and instructed, “Turn on the TV and raise the volume a bit so we can hear each other.”
Kathryn complied, ensuring that even if her father and brothers tried to eavesdrop, they wouldn’t overhear their conversation clearly.
After taking care of that, Kathryn poured a cup of warm water for Clarissa, set it down in front of her, and gently said, “Mom, please drink some water first. The butler mentioned that you haven’t eaten or drunk anything since you got back. Dad is right—no matter how big the problem is, you need to eat to have the energy to…”
the strength to resolve it.”
Clarissa looked up at Kathryn, her eyes inscrutable.
Kathryn met Clarissa’s gaze with calmness.
After a lengthy pause, Clarissa averted her eyes and said quietly, “Please have a seat.”
She then picked up the cup of warm water and took a few sips.
Kathryn sat down and asked directly, “Did you know that your aunt’s assistant was found in Wiltspoon?”
Kathryn answered honestly, “Mr. Fraser mentioned some activity in Wiltspoon, and I indirectly asked Liberty, which led me to piece together the general idea. Mom, is it really him? He’s nearly a hundred years old. Even if he is still alive, he wouldn’t have the strength to travel very far, would he?”
Regardless, she had never met her aunt’s former assistant, so she remained doubtful.
After a moment of silence, Clarissa replied, “I haven’t seen him in person, so I can’t confirm if it’s really him. The information I received was about him.”
Reports indicated that several elderly individuals had rescued the old assistant back then, and he was still alive today.
Clarissa refrained from mentioning this detail. She never confessed to Kathryn that she was responsible for the deaths of her elder sister and younger sister.
“So what if it is him? So what if it isn’t? Mom, you don’t need to worry too much. As long as you conduct yourself properly, I don’t care what others say.”
Kathryn could only reassure her mother in this manner. Unless her aunt’s assistant had proof that her mother harmed her aunt,
Even without evidence, he was still a witness, and people would likely believe his words. He could assert that her mother killed her aunt.
In this situation, Kathryn couldn’t voice her thoughts aloud. After all, she was the biological daughter of the old assistant.
A woman stood in front of her. On the surface, they appeared to be standing in the same line.
