An Understated Dominance - Chapter 104
Hunter counted down and then pulled the trigger. A loud bang echoed as a bullet grazed Mr. Gardner’s ear.
Mr. Gardner screamed in pain, clutching his bleeding ear as he stumbled backward. “Are you crazy? How dare you shoot me?” he yelled, panic-stricken.
He had thought Hunter was just bluffing. He never expected Hunter would actually fire the gun.
“The next time, I won’t miss,” Hunter said, reloading and pointing the gun at Mr. Gardner’s face.
“I’ll ask again. Will you release Dustin, or will I?” Hunter demanded.
Mr. Gardner trembled in fear. He realized that Hunter might actually go through with it.
Just then, there was a commotion at the door of the interrogation room.
An elderly man with white hair rushed in, followed by his men.
“Mr. Granville?” someone called out.
As he entered, the room fell silent.
The man was Mr. Granville, the mayor of Swinton, and the most powerful person in the city.
“Finally, Mr. Granville is here! Rhys, you’re finished! What good are Ms. Harmon and Mr. Anderson? With Mr. Granville on our side, no one can save you today!” shouted Draco, his fear replaced by arrogance.
With Mr. Granville’s arrival, Draco felt confident again. He had been worried when Natasha and Hunter came to rescue Dustin, but now he felt reassured.
“Mr. Anderson! You slapped and shot me in the ear for that punk! You’ve gone too far! Now that my father-in-law is here, let’s see how you explain this to him!” Mr. Gardner sneered, feeling emboldened.
Hunter’s face showed anger.
Just a minute ago, everyone was so bold. He couldn’t wait to see how they would act now that the mayor of Swinton was present!
“What a coincidence; his timing is perfect. Mr. Granville really knows how to make an entrance!” Natasha frowned a little.
Mr. Granville’s position as mayor demanded respect.
Chapter 104
Even with the support of Natasha and Hunter, Mr. Granville’s decision would be final.
What’s more, Mr. Granville and Mr. Gardner were related by marriage.
Were they about to stir up trouble?
“Mr. Granville, your son-in-law is guilty of lying, taking bribes, and accusing innocent people. You need to explain this situation to us today!”
To everyone’s surprise, Hunter stood his ground. He raised his voice and demanded an explanation from Mr. Granville.
Even though Hunter was the president of the Chamber of Commerce, he was still under Mr. Granville’s authority.
His actions were nothing short of a rebellion against his superiors!
“You’re lying! I’ve always been fair and just in my duties!”
Mr. Gardner quickly regained his composure and rushed to Mr. Granville, making accusations. “Father, they broke into the interrogation room without permission! And look at this; Mr. Anderson shot me in the ear! My ear is a mess! You must bring them to justice!”
He showed his injured ear to Mr. Granville, and it was a shocking sight as it was still bleeding heavily.
“Right! That kid is involved too!”
Ignoring Mr. Granville’s furious expression, Mr. Gardner pointed at Dustin. “He’s the main reason for all this. Father, you have to punish him. He even hit me in the stomach just now!”
“Shut up!” Mr. Granville shouted in anger and slapped…
Mr. Gardner felt a sharp slap on his cheek that knocked him back a few feet. Stars danced in front of his eyes.
“What?” he exclaimed, shocked.
Everyone around them was stunned. No one expected Mr. Granville to scold Mr. Gardner instead of supporting him. What was happening?
Natasha’s mouth fell open in disbelief. Dahlia looked just as surprised. Draco and his friends could hardly believe what they were witnessing. The situation was unbelievable.
“Father, why did you hit me?” Mr. Gardner asked, confused, as he rubbed his stinging cheek. He had never seen his father-in-law so angry.
Mr. Gardner was lost; he didn’t understand what he had done wrong.
“Bastard! You imprison the innocent and let the guilty go free. How dare you defend yourself? I’m going to teach you a lesson!” Mr. Granville shouted angrily.
“Father, what’s wrong with you? I’m your son-in-law!” Mr. Gardner said, his voice trembling and close to tears. He thought Mr. Granville was there to save him, not to attack him.
“Don’t call me your father-in-law! I don’t have a disgraceful son-in-law like you!” Mr. Granville retorted. “You took bribes and abused your power as a police inspector. You’re fired!”
“What?” Mr. Gardner gasped. Fear washed over him, and he felt cold sweat run down his back.
He didn’t know why things had turned so bad, but he understood that his father-in-law had cut him off. Mr. Granville was going to investigate him and reveal his wrongdoings.
They had once had a good relationship.
What could have caused Mr. Granville to change so suddenly?
Without a moment’s pause, Mr. Granville shouted his final orders to the men behind him, “Arrest Mr. Gardner right now! After we finish investigating his crimes, put him in jail!”
Mr. Gardner fell to his knees, looking pale and full of despair.
He knew that his father-in-law must be acting this way because of pressure from someone higher up. That’s why Mr. Granville felt he had no choice but to follow orders.
How could this be happening? He had only detained Dustin, a troublemaker with no real connections. How could it lead to such a disaster for him?
Could it be that the Rhys kid had powerful people supporting him?
That must be it!
As this thought crossed his mind, Mr. Gardner felt deep regret for confronting Dustin. He never imagined that such a young troublemaker could have such strong backing. Even his father-in-law had to bow down to him!
All of this was Duane’s fault!
He felt doomed because of Duane!
