An Understated Dominance - Chapter 156
“What? How did this happen?” Caden’s face turned serious as he jumped up.
“I—I don’t know! I found her unconscious when I went to wake her up this morning,” the maid said, clearly shaken.
Before she could say more, Caden and Lily dashed out the door to their daughter’s room. What they saw when they entered filled them with fear.
Sheila lay still on her Sunburst emerald bed, which usually felt warm but was now covered in a thin layer of ice. Her face was pale, her limbs cold and stiff, and frost was forming on her brow and hair. Wisps of white mist rose from her body, making her look like she had just come out of an ice cave.
“Sheila!” Lily cried, rushing to her daughter. She wrapped her arms around Sheila and tried to warm her up by breathing warm air on her.
“This is bad!” Caden said, his face dark with worry. He knelt beside Sheila and checked for a pulse, but it was weak. Her breathing was faint, and she looked like she might not survive much longer.
Caden knew he had to act fast. He focused his internal energy and directed it toward Sheila. Slowly, the frost around her began to melt, but her body stayed cold and stiff, and she still wasn’t waking up.
“Lily, hurry! Call Dr. Shane! We need him here right away!” Caden shouted.
Although his energy was keeping Sheila’s pulse going, he knew it wouldn’t last long.
“Okay!” Lily replied, quickly dialing the number.
However, her expression changed after a brief conversation. “Dr. Shane is on his way, but he says he won’t get here until nightfall.”
“Nightfall?” Caden echoed, panic rising in his chest.
“That would be too late!” Caden said with a frown. “Tell Claudia to get all the doctors in Swinton. I want them all here!”
“Alright!” Lily replied before rushing out to make another call.
Before the hour was up, Claudia arrived, looking worried but bringing a group of doctors with her. Some were department heads, some were professors, and others were experts in their fields. Every well-known doctor in Swinton was there.
“Whoever saves my daughter will receive a generous reward from the Murrays!” Caden stated firmly, offering them what he hoped was an enticing deal.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Murray, we will do our best!” the doctors assured him, encouraged by the promise. They realized this was a big opportunity for them. Everyone knew the Murrays’ reputation.
If they could help Sheila, they would gain fame and make connections with the Murrays. Not only would they earn respect, but they would also receive a significant amount of money. They were eager to take on the challenge!
However, when they entered to examine Sheila, their expressions changed. One by one, their brows furrowed, and concern filled their faces. They quickly recognized that Sheila’s condition was unusual. She felt icy cold, with a chill radiating from her body. It was something they had never encountered before.
For a moment, no one knew what to do.
“Doctors, there are so many of you here, please…”
“Are you telling me there’s nothing you can do?” Caden frowned at them.
They all looked at each other, too ashamed to answer.
“This is ridiculous!” Caden’s anger deepened. He hadn’t expected much help, but hearing that they could do nothing was frustrating.
“Uncle Caden! Sheila is really sick!” Claudia cried out.
They turned to see Sheila lying on the green bed, growing colder by the minute. Her breathing was weak.
“Oh no! This is getting worse!” Caden furrowed his brow. He knew that channeling his energy to Sheila could only help for so long; it wouldn’t cure her.
“What should we do? Sheila will be okay, right?” Claudia panicked. She and Sheila had grown up like sisters, and she couldn’t bear the thought of losing her.
“Caden, why don’t we try this?” Lily suggested, pulling out a red pill.
It was the pill that Dustin had given them. She had kept it in her pocket, unable to throw it away.
“Are you serious? How is that supposed to help Sheila?” Caden grimaced.
“Just give it a chance. We don’t have any better options. It could work!” Lily’s face was serious.
If she had a choice, she wouldn’t risk her daughter’s life, but the situation was desperate. The doctors were unable to help, and Dr. Shane was still on his way. She had to explore every possible option to save her daughter.
“What if it’s poisonous?” Caden hesitated.
“If he was brave enough to give it to us, he must believe in it. I doubt he’d try to harm us,” Lily replied.
Lily shook her head, trying to calm her nerves. “I doubt anyone would dare to poison a pill, especially not against the Murray family,” she explained.
Caden listened quietly. He looked at his daughter, who was shivering with cold, and clenched his jaw. After a moment, he nodded firmly. “Okay, let’s do it.”
Taking a deep breath, Lily carefully gave the pill to Sheila. It dissolved quickly and slid down her throat. Once it reached her stomach, the pill began to work.
Almost instantly, the coldness around Sheila started to fade. Soon, warm breaths escaped her lips. The frost on her eyebrows and hair melted away rapidly. Her once stiff body began to relax, and a healthy blush returned to her cheeks. Even her breathing steadied.
“It works!” Lily’s eyes sparkled with joy.
Although they didn’t know what the pill was made of, its effects were clear. It had chased away the chill that had gripped their daughter.
“Could it be that the rascal was telling the truth?” Caden’s eyes widened in surprise. He had thought Dustin was just a con artist trying to cheat him out of money. He never imagined that the pill, which he almost discarded, would save his daughter.
“Uncle Caden, Aunt Lily, where did this pill come from? It’s amazing!” Claudia exclaimed, her face lit with wonder.
“Do you remember the rascal who helped you both yesterday?” Caden asked Claudia.
“Of course! But who knows where he came from? He might be dangerous!” she replied.
“He was the one who gave us the pill,” Caden said.
“What?” Claudia gasped, surprised.
Her eyes grew wide with surprise.
