An Understated Dominance - Chapter 168
Jessica stood frozen, struggling to find her words as she watched Malcolm humbly seek advice from Dustin. She had never imagined that the proud Dr. Malcolm Shane could show such a vulnerable side.
What surprised her even more was that he was asking for help from Dustin Rhys, someone she thought was just a boy toy. It was hard to believe.
“I don’t think I’m the right person to give you advice, Dr. Shane, but I’d be happy to help in any way I can. We can share our thoughts,” Dustin said with a smile.
“Sure, let’s do that. Now, look at this…” Malcolm pulled out an ancient manuscript and quickly began to study it, pointing out the parts he found confusing.
“Oh, this is actually pretty simple. For instance, if you put a hundred different insects in a jar and let them fight, after a month, only one will survive. That surviving insect is usually the poisonous one you’re looking for. This poisonous insect is often used to cure other poisons by counteracting them with its own poison,” Dustin explained.
He continued, “This section explains how to neutralize that poisonous insect’s venom. You need to smoke the licorice herb until it turns black, then mix it with some soybeans to extract the juice. When a patient drinks this juice, it will neutralize the venom, but only for common poisonous insects.”
Dustin spoke clearly and confidently, answering all of Malcolm’s questions. After hearing Dustin’s explanations, Malcolm felt a sense of clarity wash over him. “Hahaha! You really are…”
“Talented! I’m so impressed, and I’ve learned so much from you today!”
Malcolm was filled with joy, practically dancing. He didn’t look like the serious expert he usually was.
“What…?” Jessica watched in shock. Was this really the arrogant Dr. Shane, who often looked down on others? Right now, he seemed more like an excited schoolboy!
And what was this mystic art they were discussing? Could a well-respected doctor like Dr. Shane really be interested in something like that?
“Dr. Shane, if you have any other questions, you can talk to Dustin later. For now, we need to discuss the press conference,” Natasha said, stepping in to redirect the conversation.
“Oh, right…” Malcolm realized he might have been a bit too enthusiastic. He nodded and said, “Just let me know what you need me to do, young lady.”
“There’s nothing you need to do. Just sit on the stage, and if you see anyone you know, feel free to greet them,” Natasha replied with a smile.
“Is it really that simple?” Malcolm asked, surprised.
“Yep, it’s that simple,” Natasha confirmed with a nod.
“That’s no problem at all!” Malcolm said happily, taking his seat on the stage and returning to his ancient manuscript.
“Natasha, even if you managed to invite Dr. Shane here, do you really think it will be enough to go against Edwin Hummer?” Jessica asked earnestly.
While she was impressed by Malcolm’s presence, she doubted he had the power to help the Harmons win against the Hummers.
In the end, the quality of their product was what truly mattered in this competition between the two families.
“We’ll find out soon enough,” Natasha said, leaving it at that. She glanced at her wristwatch and then turned to Dustin.
He nodded, understanding the signal. Quickly, he took out his phone to make a call.
Meanwhile, at the Hummers’ press conference…
