An Understated Dominance - Chapter 176
“Ruth, when did you get a boyfriend? Why didn’t you tell me?” Nigel’s face twisted with anger as he glared at Dustin.
“Do I have to report to you about my love life? You think too highly of yourself,” Ruth replied, rolling her eyes. She had turned Nigel down many times, but he just wouldn’t stop bothering her.
“I’m just worried you might get tricked. There are a lot of con artists out there who use their looks to swindle people,” Nigel said mockingly.
“That’s not true! Dustin isn’t a con man!” Sheila quickly defended him.
When everyone looked at her, Sheila realized she had spoken out of turn and fell silent.
“Ms. Murray, what’s that sachet around your neck?” Dustin suddenly noticed something strange.
“Is there a problem?” Sheila picked up the sachet and examined it.
“Throw it away. It looks suspicious,” Dustin said, shaking his head.
“What do you mean? This aromatic sachet helps calm the mind and improve sleep. How can it be suspicious?” Claudia said, sounding annoyed.
“I’m just being honest,” Dustin replied calmly.
“If you’re not sure, then keep quiet and stop being a know-it-all!” Claudia shot back.
“Claudia!” Sheila said, pouting in annoyance.
“Alright, alright. It’s just a sachet. Why argue about it? Let’s sit down and enjoy ourselves,” Ruth said, pulling Sheila beside her and starting to chat.
Dustin felt a little left out. Claudia glared at him and turned away, feeling uneasy around him for some reason.
“Claudia, who is this guy anyway?” Nigel squinted at Dustin.
“He’s nothing special, just a doctor from the countryside. If you really want to know about him, he’s…”
“Skilled in the use of hidden weapons,” Claudia said coldly.
“I thought he was a big deal, but he’s just a doctor. Hey, you! Don’t blame me for not warning you. You won’t fit in with us. If you’re smart, you’ll leave on your own!” Nigel said with a sneer.
“That’s right! A nobody like you doesn’t deserve to be Ruth’s boyfriend, let alone compete with Mr. Lincoln!” another girl in a yellow dress mocked Dustin.
“Oh, so what?” Dustin replied, showing no emotion.
“So you better know your place. Don’t embarrass yourself. Do you see that Patek Philippe watch on Mr. Lincoln’s wrist? You’ll never make that much money in your entire life!” she continued.
Chapter 176
“Oh, so what?” Dustin repeated.
“You really don’t understand Mr. Lincoln’s background, do you? Let me fill you in. His family is involved in real estate in Millsburg, with assets worth billions. They have connections everywhere, both in business and the underworld,” the girl in yellow said, full of herself.
“Oh, so what?” Dustin said again.
“Not only does Mr. Lincoln have a wealthy family, but he’s also exceptional. He graduated from Oxford University and makes millions each year. Plus, he has practiced martial arts since he was young. He’s so talented that he was invited to join the Martial Arts Association. He excels in both academics and martial arts!” she added.
“Oh, so what?” Dustin responded calmly.
“With Mr. Lincoln’s status and skills, everyone notices him wherever he goes. A loser like you can never compare!” she said, her voice rising.
“Oh, so what?” Dustin replied once more.
“Can’t you say anything else?” the girl in yellow asked, rolling her eyes. Her face flushed with anger and disgust. It was incredibly frustrating to deal with him.
“Hey, talk to this guy!”
“Punk, you think you’re clever with your words, but it doesn’t matter. You will always be beneath me,” Nigel said with a sneer. “No amount of sweet talk or flattery will change that!”
“Oh, really?” Dustin shot back.
Nigel’s face twitched in annoyance. Why did this guy keep repeating himself? Couldn’t they have a normal conversation?
Just then, a loud commotion erupted outside the door.
“Stop right there! This room is reserved for another event. Everyone not involved needs to leave!”
“Surround them! Don’t let anyone escape!”
With screams echoing in the air, the door to their private room burst open. A group of masked assassins in black stormed in, exuding a menacing presence. The bodyguards at the door were quickly taken down.
“Who are you? Who let you in? Get out!” shouted a girl in a yellow dress, rising angrily.
“Shut up!” the leader of the assassins yelled as he slapped her, sending her flying.
“What is this? How dare you cause trouble here?” Nigel yelled, furious.
“Our target is Sheila Murray. Anyone not involved needs to leave!” the leader announced.
“What?” Claudia frowned, feeling tense. From their outfits, these assassins looked like the ones who had attacked them a few days ago.
“Who do you think you are, demanding Sheila? If you don’t want to end up dead, you should get out now!” Nigel glared fiercely at them.
“What, trying to save the damsel in distress?” the leader of the assassins asked, eyeing Nigel.
“What if I am?” Nigel puffed out his chest defiantly.
“You foolish idiot! Kill him!” the leader ordered his men without hesitation.
Nigel stood confidently, ready for anything.
Suddenly, the other assassins shouted, “Yes, sir!” and rushed at him with their swords drawn.
“How dare you show off such petty tricks in front of me?” Nigel laughed coldly, unbothered by their attack.
He charged at the assassins, delivering a quick and powerful roundhouse kick to one of them. In just a few seconds, he had taken down all of them.
After defeating them, he struck a proud pose.
“Oh my god! Mr. Lincoln is amazing!” cheered the crowd. Their spirits soared, and some girls screamed in admiration.
“These punks are no match for me!” Nigel said, turning to flash a charming smile at his fans.
But before he could enjoy his moment, a massive fist struck him right in the face.
Caught off guard, Nigel stumbled back, disoriented, as blood streamed from his nose.
His moment of triumph was over far too quickly.
