An Understated Dominance - Chapter 19
The hall was chaotic because of Dustin’s actions. The nervous guests had quickly left, afraid of getting caught in the trouble.
Edward lay unconscious and seriously hurt. His bodyguards rushed him to the hospital. Dahlia looked worried and frowned.
Sir Spanner had a reputation for being cruel, and he wouldn’t take kindly to his son being beaten so badly. It was a dangerous situation for Dustin.
“Lyra, I need you to find a way to resolve this peacefully,” Dahlia said suddenly.
Lyra was confused. “Why should we help Dustin, Ms. Nicholson? What does this have to do with us?”
Dahlia’s expression turned icy. “He saved my life earlier. Should I just let him die?”
“That’s not what I meant. It would be very risky to cross Sir Spanner right now. Plus, no one wants to get involved in this mess,” Lyra explained.
“It doesn’t matter. We have to try,” Dahlia replied, her determination clear.
“Alright, I’ll do my best,” Lyra said, knowing she had no other choice. She quickly started calling their contacts.
However, as soon as the big bosses understood the situation, they all hung up in fear. No one wanted to get involved with Sir Spanner.
“See, Ms. Nicholson? It’s not that we don’t want to help—it’s that we can’t,” Lyra said, waving her hands in frustration.
“Try again,” Dahlia ordered, frowning.
“There’s no point—” Lyra began to say, but then she noticed Chris standing nearby. “Wait, maybe Mr. Nolan can help.”
“Me?” Chris asked, surprised as he pointed to himself.
“Yes! Didn’t you say your father was friends with Sir Spanner? Maybe your father can help us,” Lyra suggested eagerly.
“Um…” Chris was caught off guard. It was true that his father knew Sir Spanner, but their relationship was strictly professional. He doubted that Sir Spanner would want to help, especially since Edward had been seriously hurt. How could anyone convince him not to retaliate?
“I’ll owe you big time if you can help with this, Mr. Nolan!” Dahlia said earnestly. Looking at her hopeful face, Chris felt torn. This was a great opportunity to impress her, and he didn’t want to let it slip away.
“I can try, but I can’t promise anything. This is Sir Spanner we’re talking about,” Chris finally said after thinking it over.
Dahlia visibly relaxed. “That’s okay! I’ll be so grateful if Dustin just stays safe!”
“Alright, I’ll do my best,” Chris replied casually, nodding. If it worked, great! If not, there were no downsides—Dahlia already owed him a favor for helping.
Meanwhile, in a lounge at Mirage, Natasha watched the events unfold on a monitor, her lips curled into a sly smile.
She had a clear view of Edward being attacked and almost cheered out loud.
Natasha had always found some members of the Spanner family irritating, but she hadn’t acted against them for various reasons. Thankfully, Dustin didn’t disappoint her this time; she was quite pleased with what he was doing.
“Ms. Harmon, I’m afraid Mr. Rhys doesn’t have enough influence to protect him from Trevor’s anger. Should we step in?”
Alfred Jarvis, the butler standing next to Natasha, suddenly spoke up.
“Let’s not rush into any decisions. We should keep an eye on him—it’s too early to tell if Trevor can beat him.” Natasha narrowed her eyes as she studied Dustin’s strong figure on the screen.
“Oh? You think highly of him?” Alfred asked, looking a bit confused. Natasha smirked. “It’s more about curiosity—I believe he has a lot of surprises.”
“You don’t actually have feelings for him, do you, Ms. Harmon? Remember, you’re already engaged—”
“Hm?” Natasha shot a cold look at Alfred, causing him to fall silent out of fear.
“Just remember this: You’re not in a position to comment on my personal life; focus on your own responsibilities.”
“Yes, Ms. Harmon.” Alfred didn’t dare say anything else, feeling a chill run down his spine.
Meanwhile, at the district hospital, it was midnight. Edward was quickly wheeled out of the emergency operating room on a hospital bed, his lower half heavily bandaged. A tall, muscular man with a thick beard and mustache led the crowd that had gathered.
It was Trevor Spanner, the King of the Underworld in East City.
“Doctor! How’s my son?” Trevor demanded. The doctor sighed and replied, “He’s not in danger, but the damage to his genitals is severe. I’m afraid he won’t regain full function.”
“What!” Trevor’s face fell at this news. Not being able to regain full function meant his son could become impotent!
“Don’t you know how to do your jobs? You can’t even handle such a minor injury?” Trevor shouted, grabbing the doctor by the collar.
“We’ve done everything we can, sir, but the injury is just too serious. Preserving…”
“This isn’t easy for him either,” the doctor said, clearly frustrated.
He had never seen anything so tragic—the patient’s injuries were severe. If he hadn’t made it to the hospital in time, he might have died.
“You’re useless! Get out of my sight!” Trevor shouted, his face filled with anger as he pushed the doctor aside. If the best doctors at the hospital couldn’t help, then his son was truly in bad shape.
“Talk! What happened?” Trevor turned sharply to the bodyguards behind him. “Edward was fine, so why has he been beaten up like this?”
“Sir Spanner, he…” One of the bodyguards bravely began to explain what had happened.
As the bodyguard spoke, Trevor’s anger boiled over. He raised his hand and slapped the bodyguard hard across the face.
“You guys are worthless! What’s the point of hiring you if you can’t even handle one guy?” Trevor yelled. His rage didn’t ease, and he slapped each of the bodyguards multiple times.
The bodyguards looked down, too scared to respond.
“Why are you still standing there? Go get more men and bring that guy to me! I don’t care who he is; I want him punished for hurting my son!”
With that command, Trevor’s team quickly sprang into action. A storm was brewing, and it was clear that trouble was on the horizon…
