An Understated Dominance - Chapter 202
Dustin finally expressed the frustrations he had kept inside for too long. “You…”
“That’s nonsense!” Florence shouted, disbelief in her voice. “My daughter’s success today is all because of her hard work, not you! Don’t think too highly of yourself. You only got where you are by depending on a woman! If Ms. Harmon hadn’t stood up for you, the Hummers would have taken you down a long time ago! So don’t get too comfortable. Sooner or later, Ms. Harmon will realize you’re useless and drop you. When that happens, everyone will turn against you!”
Dustin heard her words and simply shook his head, chuckling softly. It was clear there was no point in trying to explain himself. The Nicholson family would never see him as anything other than an average nobody. But he didn’t care.
“Alright, I won’t waste any more time talking to you. Please leave the medical center now. You’re not welcome here!” Dustin said firmly, putting an end to their nonsense.
“Just wait! This isn’t over!” James shouted angrily. He helped Florence into the car, and they drove off.
James couldn’t win in a fight, so he had to think of another way to deal with Dustin.
“Caitlyn, are you okay?” Dustin asked, worried about her.
“I’m fine. I’m really sorry for causing you trouble, Mr. Rhys,” Caitlyn replied, looking embarrassed.
“Don’t worry, silly girl. If something like this happens again, just run away and hide. Don’t try to be brave,” Dustin advised gently.
“Okay,” Caitlyn said, nodding with a sweet smile.
Later that evening, Dahlia returned to the…
Nicholson Villa after work was tense. As soon as Dahlia stepped inside, she noticed James’s bruised face and Matt’s serious expression.
“Dahlia, you’re finally home! Did you know Mom got beaten up?” James said urgently.
“What? Mom was beaten? What happened?” Dahlia was shocked.
“It’s a long story. You need to go to Mom’s room right away!” James insisted.
Worrying, Dahlia hurried to Florence’s room.
Inside, she found Florence lying on the bed, looking pale. Her head was wrapped in thick bandages, and her hands and feet were in casts.
On the bedside table, there were several bloody towels. It looked like a scene from a nightmare.
“Mom, what happened to you? How did you get hurt so badly?” Dahlia asked, horrified.
“Dahlia, you’re back! If you had come any later, I might not have seen you again…” Florence said, trailing off before breaking into a fake coughing fit.
“Mom, please tell me what happened! Who did this to you?” Dahlia’s anger began to rise.
“It was that animal, Dustin! Your brother and I went to the Peaceful Medical Center today to ask him for help with a formula. Instead of helping, he insulted us. I got mad and told him off, but he flew into a rage and attacked us. I was lucky to make it back at all!” Florence explained, adding some drama to her story.
“Dustin? He would never do something like that.” Dahlia’s eyes widened in disbelief. She couldn’t imagine him being violent.
“Dahlia, I know this is hard to believe, but just look at us! Mom is hurt, and I’m banged up too! That Rhys guy is not human!” James exclaimed, frustration evident in his voice.
Dahlia protested angrily, “No, that can’t be true. Was there some sort of misunderstanding?”
She clung to her last bit of hope.
“Dahlia, it’s already too late for that. Do you really still want to defend that person?” James replied, his frustration clear. “Fine, if you don’t believe me, I’ll show you proof! Here’s a recording from my dashcam. You’ll see for yourself.” He pulled out his phone, opened a video, and pressed play.
Dahlia leaned closer to the screen, her heart racing. In an instant, it felt like she had been struck by lightning.
