An Understated Dominance - Chapter 204
“Do you really have nothing else to say? I knew you were lying! Why did you have to change? Why do you keep pushing my limits? Do you want us to turn against each other? Dahlia felt disappointed and heartbroken.
“It’s not that I’ve changed, but you’ve never believed in me, not before or now. Since you won’t believe me anyway, there’s nothing left to discuss. I’ll find a way to repay you for what you did for Gregory.” With that, Dustin hung up.
Could things ever go back to how they were before?
No, it was impossible.
That was his answer to her question last night.
“Dustin, what do you mean? Are you trying to cut ties with me?” Dahlia wanted to say more, but the line was already silent.
Dustin’s coldness felt like a knife to her heart.
She couldn’t understand why they couldn’t get along. Why did they have to hurt each other?
Why couldn’t he try to understand her?
“Dahlia, I told you a long time ago that Dustin is heartless. I’m sure you see his true nature now,” James said, adding to her pain.
“Dahlia, we shouldn’t beg him. He will get what he deserves sooner or later!” Florence chimed in, adding more hurt.
“Mom, please stop talking. Just focus on getting better. I’ll figure something out for Julie.” Dahlia felt overwhelmed.
“Dahlia, don’t worry too much. My dad is already talking to his contacts about Julie’s arrest. We should hear something soon,” Matt said, trying to comfort her.
A woman is at her most vulnerable when she is hurting.
“If he took this chance, she would soon be his.”
“Thanks,” Dahlia said with a forced smile.
While they were talking, a police car pulled up to the villa. The door opened, and Julie jumped out with excitement.
“Aunt Florence, I’m back!” she shouted as she entered.
“Julie?!”
Everyone was surprised to see her.
Florence even dropped her sickly act and jumped off the bed. She grabbed Julie’s hand and looked her over with concern. “Julie, are you okay? Did they hurt you? I was so worried!”
“Aunt Florence, I’m fine. I was just locked up for half a day. I didn’t get hurt,” Julie replied with a smile. Although she felt a little shaken, she was happy to be back.
“You were released after just half a day? That’s surprising,” James said, looking bewildered.
“The whole thing was strange. They were really tough on me during the questioning. But then they got a phone call and let me go right away,” Julie explained, still confused.
A lightbulb went off in Florence’s mind. “Oh, I know! It must have been Matt’s father who helped you. If it weren’t for Mr. Laney Sr.’s connections, you might still be in there.”
“Really? Thank you so much, Matt!” Julie said, quickly expressing her gratitude.
“It was just a small favor. It was nothing,” Matt replied, pretending to be humble. But he, too, found the situation odd. According to their plan, his father was only supposed to help Julie after he got the formula for Immortunol.
So why had she been released so quickly?
“See, Dahlia? This is the difference between Matt and Dustin! That Rhys guy can’t do anything but use dirty tricks to get people in trouble! Just look…”
“Matt is always there for us when we need him. He really knows how to save the day! You can see who truly cares about you,” Florence said, praising Matt while putting down another man.
“Exactly, Dahlia! That other guy isn’t right for you. Matt is the best choice! Now that you’re divorced, why not just be with Matt?” James added.
“I really don’t want to talk about this right now,” Dahlia replied.
