An Understated Dominance - Chapter 206
“Dustin Rhys? How could it be him?!” Florence and the others exchanged looks, disbelief written all over their faces.
They never imagined that it wasn’t Matt who had saved Julie, but the person they had called ungrateful. This felt like a harsh slap in the face!
“So, Dustin never framed Julie? And it was you all who were spreading lies about him?” Dahlia stood frozen, her face pale.
“Who spread lies? I bet he feels guilty for what he did, and now he’s trying to make it up to us!” Florence argued stubbornly.
She was used to being in charge and would never admit she had misjudged Dustin. That would be too embarrassing.
“Mom, things have gotten this far, and you still want to defend yourself?” Dahlia bit her lip, her heart aching.
“Defend myself? If that Rhys guy hadn’t framed Julie, why would he have saved her? He’s only trying to ease his guilt!” Florence insisted, her voice filled with anger.
“Exactly! If he didn’t do anything wrong, why did he save her?” James chimed in.
“I’ve had enough of this!” Dahlia finally burst out.
“Why do you always pick on Dustin? What has he ever done to you? Why do you keep starting fights with him? In our three years of marriage, he has always been honest and easygoing, but you have always held a grudge against him. He hasn’t done anything wrong, yet you keep blaming him. Can’t you see how good he is?”
By the end of her rant, she was practically shouting.
Everyone was taken aback, unsure of how to respond.
Dahlia couldn’t take it anymore. She swung the door open and stormed out.
She got into her car and drove away quickly, but tears kept streaming down her face. She felt a deep sense of regret. She regretted acting on impulse, believing her mother’s words, and misunderstanding Dustin.
At the Peaceful Medical Center, Dustin took a deep breath after hanging up the phone. He quickly calmed himself down; after all, this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened, so he wasn’t too upset right now.
Just then, a fancy Maybach with a Millsburg license plate pulled up. A middle-aged man in a flashy red suit stepped out, walking confidently, followed closely by a stocky bodyguard.
“Are you Dustin Rhys?” the man in the red suit asked, looking at Dustin with a judgmental eye.
“And who are you?” Dustin replied, glancing at him.
“My name is Phineas Laney, from the Laney family of Millsburg,” the man said, wiping down the chair with his handkerchief before sitting down.
Dustin quickly connected the dots. “The Laney family? What’s your connection to Matt Laney?”
“Matt is my son and the heir of our family,” Phineas said, adjusting his glasses. “But I didn’t come here just to tell you that; I’m here to offer you something valuable.”
“Oh? What do you mean?” Dustin asked, raising his eyebrows in curiosity.
“I heard that you have the Immortunol formula. It’s something I am very interested in.”
Phineas leaned forward and placed a check on the table. “This is a check for 30 million dollars. If you give me the formula, the money is yours. For someone like you, this is enough to live comfortably for the rest of your life!”
Dustin shook his head. “Sorry, I’m not interested.”
Phineas narrowed his eyes. “Why not? Is it not enough? I didn’t think you were someone who turned down big offers. How about I add another 20 million? That makes it 50 million dollars total. Just give me the formula.”
Dustin remained calm. “Like I said, I’m not interested.”
