An Understated Dominance - Chapter 214
At that moment, Phineas and Matt were sitting in the living room of Brooks Manor.
“Dad, do you think Big Bucks Brooks will lend us money?” Mall asked, glancing around with a worried look.
“Big Bucks Brooks is very rich and generous. He has always had a good relationship with our family, so borrowing money shouldn’t be a problem,” Phineas replied confidently, raising his cup for a sip.
Even though the Lacey family wasn’t back to their former glory, they were still better off than most people. They still had some status in the community.
“If it weren’t for our family’s financial troubles, we wouldn’t need to borrow money at all,” Matt sighed.
Recently, they had received some awful news. Many of their major partners had pulled their investments, and all their business deals had fallen apart. Their family faced serious setbacks overnight.
Now, they urgently needed funds, or the Lacey family would go bankrupt in less than a month. The only person who could help was Big Bucks Brooks.
“Speaking of this situation, it’s strange how all the investments were pulled at once. I think someone is targeting our family,” Phineas said thoughtfully as he rubbed his chin.
“Who would dare mess with us?” Matt slammed his palm on the table in frustration.
Their original plan was to get the Immortunol formula and use the investment money to conduct their own research. This would help restore the Lacey family to their former glory. But after everything that had happened…
a plan we need to follow,” Phineas said, trying to keep the conversation light despite his annoyance at Dustin’s presence.
“Dad, how much money do we need to keep our family running?” Matt asked, looking a bit worried.
“About three billion dollars,” Phineas replied, holding up three fingers.
“Three billion?” Matt’s face fell. “Do you think Big Bucks Brooks would give us that much in one loan?”
“Big Bucks Brooks has control over a third of all the money in Millsburg. Three billion is nothing to him,” Phineas said casually, taking a sip of his tea. “Besides, I came here in person. He wouldn’t dare say no. He should be grateful that we’re here to be friendly.”
“That makes sense,” Matt said, feeling a bit relieved. The Laney family did have a good reputation, and they could count on some respect from Brooks.
Just then, the door swung open, and a few people walked in. At the front was Roderick.
Phineas quickly stood up, smiling widely. “Hey, Mr. Brooks! It’s been a while. You look even more handsome!”
But when he noticed Dustin standing behind Roderick, his smile vanished. “What are you doing here?!” he snapped at Dustin.
“Why can’t I be here if you are?” Dustin replied coolly.
Phineas glared at him. “And who do you think you are? You’re not even in our league.”
“Dustin, are you here to ask Mr. Brooks for a loan too?” Matt asked, eyeing him suspiciously.
“What I’m doing here is none of your business,” Dustin said without changing his expression.
Phineas quickly turned to Brooks, trying to steer the conversation back. “Mr. Brooks, we’ve always had a good relationship. Please don’t lend him any money! We have our own plans.”
“Bad blood!” Phineas declared, speaking his mind openly.
He believed that Roderick would never side with someone as insignificant as a small fry against the powerful Laney family.
So, in his view, Roderick had definitely won this round.
“Phineas, are you really sure you have a grudge against Mr. Rhys?” Roderick replied with a sly smile.
“Absolutely!” Phineas puffed out his chest with confidence. “Mr. Brooks, to be honest, my two issues with him can never be resolved, so please don’t try to defend him!”
