An Understated Dominance - Chapter 215
The Immortunol formula would soon be his.
“You’re mistaken. I don’t mean it that way,” Roderick said calmly.
“Huh?” Phineas looked confused. “What do you mean, then?”
“Both of you are here to borrow my money, right?” Roderick replied instead of answering the question.
Phineas let out a nervous laugh. “Our family ran into some trouble recently, and we need some money to turn things around. That’s why we’ve come to you, Mr. Brooks.”
“How much do you need?” Roderick asked.
“About three billion dollars,” Phineas said.
“Three billion!” Roderick raised an eyebrow. “Sorry, but I can’t do that.”
“What?” Phineas was shocked, then dismayed. “Mr. Brooks, three billion is nothing to you. Why can’t you lend us the money?”
“Technically, I’ve already lent the money to Mr. Rhys, so you’ll have to ask him for it,” Roderick replied with a sarcastic smile.
“What? You lent it to him?” Phineas and his father were stunned, unable to believe what they heard. There was no way Roderick would lend that useless punk three billion dollars!
“You’re not joking with us, are you, Mr. Brooks?” Phineas asked, his eyes wide.
“Yeah! What are we supposed to do if you gave the money to him?” Matt asked, feeling hopeless.
“That’s not my problem!” Roderick said bluntly.
“Mr. Brooks, how could you lend your money to him instead of us? Considering our friendship, this is too much. Do you really think that brat is better than the Laney family?” Phineas exclaimed. The Laney family was wealthy and well-connected, much more so than Dustin. Anyone would know who to choose.
“First of all, we’re not friends. Second, it’s my money. I—” Roderick began to explain.
“Who do you think you are? How dare you compare yourselves to Mr. Rhys! You should really take a good look in the mirror!” Roderick snapped angrily.
“Mr. Brooks! Are you really going to make the Laney family your enemy just because of that brat?” Phineas growled.
“Exactly! You need to think this through. Is the Laney family more important, or is that brat?” Matt chimed in. They were sure Roderick, as a businessman, would never turn against the Laney family.
“So what if we become enemies? A poor family like yours thinks they can threaten me? Ha! You must be joking!” Roderick scoffed.
“I could cut off all your funds right now. You wouldn’t see a single penny in this province!”
His words struck the father-son duo like a bucket of ice water. They were so worked up that they momentarily forgot they were talking to Bucks Brooks, whose wealth and influence far surpassed that of the Laney family.
Even at their strongest, they had to respect Roderick, let alone now. Still, they could hardly believe that someone as powerful as Roderick would clash with their family over someone like Dustin.
Did Dustin have connections they didn’t know about?
