An Understated Dominance - Chapter 216
“Mr. Brooks, why are you choosing him over our family?” Phineas asked, glaring at Roderick. He had approached him confidently, but he didn’t expect this response.
“To be honest, Mr. Rhys is my savior and honored guest. If you have a problem with him, you have a problem with me! So, you can either apologize to him, or your family is finished!” Roderick said, his presence strong and commanding.
“You want us to say sorry to that jerk? Not happening!” Matt shouted angrily.
“Then get out! I wonder how long your family will last without my help,” Roderick replied, kicking them out.
“Roderick Brooks, life has its ups and downs. Don’t underestimate a broke man! You’ll regret this one day!” Matt said through clenched teeth as he stormed away.
“Mr. Brooks, you’ve just made the Laney family your enemy. I’m sure we can find three billion dollars elsewhere!” Phineas glared at Roderick before following his son out.
“Arrogant fools!” Roderick sneered.
No one in the province would dare lend money to the Laney family since Roderick had already turned them down.
Back home, Matt and Phineas were upset about the meeting.
“What is wrong with Roderick Brooks? He wouldn’t help us because of that kid!” Matt fumed.
“It seems that kid has some powerful connections,” Phineas said, frowning.
“Please! He’s just a pretty boy who got lucky because of Natasha! Roderick is only standing by him because of her,” Matt grumbled.
“The Harmon family is a real pain. I have a feeling they are behind our financial troubles,” Phineas mused.
“What should we do now, Dad? Should we fight back?” Matt asked.
“No. We need to come up with a better plan.”
Phineas was determined not to give up. He took out his phone and started reaching out for help. The Laney family still had some friends and partners, so he believed they could come through for him if he could raise enough money.
“Hey, Mr. Smith, it’s me. I’m a bit short on cash. Could you help me out? I promise to pay you back with interest after the turnover,” he said.
“Hi, Mr. Thompson. This is Phineas Lancy. I’m calling to ask for a favor,” he continued.
“Hey, Mr. Johnson. I need your help,” he added.
Phineas called one wealthy friend after another, but his mood darkened with each conversation. As soon as they heard he was asking to borrow money, their friendly tones changed. They started making excuses to say no, and some even hung up without a word.
Phineas quickly realized what fair-weather friends were. After all those calls, he didn’t manage to get any money. Instead, he only stirred up more trouble.
