An Understated Dominance - Chapter 2442
Even without the king involved, ambitious people would try to tear the Ballard family apart, leaving nothing behind.
Simon faced a tough choice. If he picked the right side and they won, his family could enjoy a century of stability and success. But if he supported the wrong prince, everything could collapse in one night.
At that moment, Simon felt unsure about what to do. This was a crucial decision; one wrong move could ruin his entire family.
“I need to think this over carefully. I can’t give you an answer just yet,” Simon said. He understood the high stakes. A single mistake could lead to disaster, so he had to be careful.
“I understand,” Anders replied with a small smile. “This is a hard decision. I just hope Your Lordship can decide soon.”
“Your Lordship, the people seeking a marriage alliance with the Mosey family aren’t just from your family,” Zack said calmly. “Don’t think you can wait for the best offer. Time is running out, and your family has limited options.”
“Take your time to think it over. We won’t keep you any longer. Farewell.” Anders stood up and nodded politely before leaving with his group.
As soon as the Moseys were gone, the three Ballard brothers couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Dad, the Moseys are so arrogant! How dare they threaten us like that? They’ve gone too far!” Jovian said, his face darkening with anger.
His military background made him quick-tempered. If he hadn’t been holding back, he would have lashed out earlier.
“The Moseys might be unbearable, but they’re not entirely wrong,” Simon said. “The fight for the throne has always been a national issue. Given our family’s current situation, staying out of it would be nearly impossible.”
Jensen shook his head. Even though he was a businessman, he understood that they had to get involved in court politics.
“Dad, what do you think?” Jonathan asked carefully.
Simon rubbed his temples and sighed. “This is giving me a headache.” The future of the Ballard family was on the line, and even he, who usually made quick decisions, couldn’t rush this one.
“Since we can’t avoid it, we should support the prince who is most likely to win,” Jensen suggested.
“Out of all the princes, Prince Tristan, Prince Matthias, and Prince Nathaniel are the strongest candidates,” Jonathan explained.
He continued, “Traditionally, Prince Tristan should be the clear choice. He’s the oldest and the legitimate heir, so it makes sense for him to be crowned. But because of his poor health and short life expectancy, he isn’t the best candidate.”
“Prince Matthias, on the other hand, was trained in the military from a young age and is an excellent martial artist. He’s respected by the soldiers for his bravery and strength, but he doesn’t have the skills to govern well.”
“Then there’s Prince Nathaniel. He’s well-rounded and good in both civil and military matters. However, his biggest flaws are his stubbornness and jealousy. He doesn’t have the generosity a king needs.”
Jensen felt a headache coming on. “Jonathan, you’ve laid out the options, but who do you think is the best choice?”
“Why are you asking me? Who else should I ask?” Jonathan replied, a bit annoyed.
If there was a clear answer, the officials in the court wouldn’t be so divided. In the end, the fight for the throne seemed inevitable, and no one could predict who would emerge victorious.
