An Understated Dominance - Chapter 2445
In a luxurious mansion in the Inner City, a female spy dressed in black and wearing a hood reported her findings to Nathaniel.
“Your Highness, the Moseys have been very active lately and are gathering allies. Many of the eight great families and other strong groups have already joined them. If we don’t act, they could become a serious threat to us,” she said, kneeling with her head slightly bowed.
“So the Moseys are backing Matthias, huh?” Nathaniel replied.
He sat quietly, his face showing no emotion.
“The Moseys have big plans. While they say they support Prince Matthias, they only want to use him as a puppet to gain more power for themselves,” she explained.
She had been spying on the Moseys for years and knew their operations inside and out.
Seamus, the leader, seemed like a kind philanthropist, but this was just a cover. In reality, he was ruthless and would kill without a second thought.
His adopted son once disagreed with him publicly about some issues. Soon after, the son’s entire family was killed by supposed enemies. That was when Anders took over.
Although it was said to be a revenge attack by enemies, her investigation showed that Seamus secretly had a private army to get rid of anyone who opposed him.
“It looks like Seamus’s ambitions are still strong—he’s still trying to use Matthias to gain power,” Nathaniel said with a sneer.
He continued, “Unfortunately, Matthias is all brawn and no brains. He doesn’t even see how serious the situation is. He actually thinks he’s the chosen one destined for the throne. But in reality, he’s nothing.”
“More than a pawn.”
“Your Highness, you’ve been preparing for this moment. Just say the word, and Seamus won’t see another night,” the female spy whispered.
She had many chances to get close to Seamus. With her skills and help from other spies, killing him would be easy.
“Assassination is a last resort. Unless we’re facing mutual destruction, we can’t go that route,” he replied, shaking his head.
Killing Seamus could seriously weaken the Moseys, but it would also lead to a fierce retaliation. Oakvale would fall into chaos and endless bloodshed.
“Do you have another plan, Your Highness?” the female spy asked.
“Nathaniel thought for a moment. “Matthias is stubborn and doesn’t want to live in someone else’s shadow. He might not be wise, but he’s a capable general. How do you think he’d react if he learned he’s just a pawn in Seamus’s game?” Nathaniel smiled slyly.
“Are you suggesting we create distrust between them?” She quickly understood his plan.
“Exactly!” Nathaniel grinned. “Their alliance is based on mutual interests, but they can never truly be united. Once suspicion creeps in, breaking their alliance will be easy.”
“That’s a brilliant strategy, Your Highness,” the female spy said, her eyes shining with excitement.
“Oh, and what has Tristan been up to lately?” Nathaniel asked suddenly.
“Prince Tristan is trying hard to gather support from different groups, but few have joined him. He’s not much of a threat to us,” she replied.
“He has big plans, but he’s running out of time,” Nathaniel said, stroking his chin thoughtfully. Then a grin spread across his face. “Set up a meeting. I want to pay him a visit.”
“Understood,” the female spy replied before turning to leave.
