An Understated Dominance - Chapter 2468
The enforcement team worked quickly and efficiently. Within an hour, Huxley, Warrick, and Percival were back at the castle.
Following Austin’s orders, Axel made sure the three met briefly when they arrived, but they couldn’t talk to each other. After that, they were taken to separate rooms, each guarded alone.
Because of their high status, the enforcement team treated them respectfully, offering tea and wine. However, they weren’t allowed to leave their rooms and had to wait for Austin to call for them.
Warrick was placed in Room A1, Huxley in Room A2, and Percival in Room A3.
The rooms were right next to each other, separated only by thin walls. If they stepped outside, they could see one another, but none of them realized how close they actually were.
This was all part of Austin’s plan. He knew he would need to use clever methods to get the truth from these three sly individuals.
In Room A1, Warrick sat calmly, sipping his tea without a worry in the world. He had expected to be questioned by Austin and was ready for it.
As long as Austin had no proof, Warrick felt confident. To him, the questioning was just a formality.
Next door in Room A2, Huxley looked just as relaxed, acting like none of this bothered him. The assassin had been sent out of West Lucozia, and Jovian’s body was burned. Even if the enforcement team searched the place thoroughly, they wouldn’t find a single clue.
Besides, he and Warrick had already made a plan. As long as they both stayed quiet and claimed they knew nothing, this whole situation would pass.
Even with his noble status, Austin couldn’t take action against them without solid evidence.
the hidden door, trying to keep his thoughts clear. He knew he had to handle this situation carefully.
In Room A3, the atmosphere was tense. Warrick and Huxley appeared calm, but Percival was on edge. With his white hair and worried expression, he paced the room, hands clasped behind his back. Although he hadn’t been directly involved in Jovian’s death, he was one of the few who knew the truth. He had shared a meal with Jovian the night before he went missing, which made him a potential suspect.
Percival’s biggest fear was that Austin might misinterpret the situation and think he played a role in Jovian’s death. “How did I get into this mess?” he thought bitterly. If he had known things would spiral out of control, he would have kept his distance.
Austin was furious and had called in the enforcement team. Percival knew that if they found anything suspicious, he would be in serious trouble. Even if he emerged from the investigation unscathed, his reputation would be ruined. After all, he had been part of more than a few shady dealings throughout his time in government.
Meanwhile, Austin sat quietly in a secret room, watching the trio through a surveillance screen. Warrick and Huxley seemed unnaturally calm, as if they had expected this situation. It was puzzling—how could anyone remain so composed after being taken by the enforcement team? They were either completely innocent or confident they wouldn’t be caught.
After watching for a while, Austin made a decision. “Bring Warrick in first,” he ordered.
“Yes, Your Highness,” Axel replied, quickly exiting the room to carry out the order.
Austin stood up and made his way back to the meeting room through the hidden door, ready to confront the first of the three.
to anything, it might go easier for you.”
A hidden passage.
A short while later, Axel walked in with Warrick following closely behind.
“Your Highness, it’s an honor to stand before you,” Warrick said, greeting Austin with a respectful fist salute.
“Sit,” Austin replied with a nod.
“Thank you,” Warrick said, sitting down with a calm demeanor.
Axel poured tea while keeping a watchful eye on Warrick. Rumor had it that Warrick had perfected the Steelheart Technique. He could easily behead an enemy commander in battle. Such a powerful person could be a serious threat if he chose to rebel.
“Mr. Prescott, do you know why I’ve called you here?” Austin asked quietly.
“I don’t. Please tell me,” Warrick responded, his face blank.
“My friend went missing last night, and I fear he has been murdered. I’m currently investigating this. Do you have any information?” Austin said directly.
“Your Highness, are you suggesting that I’m involved?” Warrick raised an eyebrow.
“According to my investigation, my friend met with you last night before he disappeared. What do you have to say about that?” Austin asked coldly.
“I follow the rules, Your Highness. I would never get involved in such things. Besides, I had no issue with Jovian. Why would I want to kill him?” Warrick replied.
“I never mentioned my friend’s name. How did you know he was called Jovian?” Austin shot back suddenly.
“I…” Warrick hesitated but quickly added, “The only person who met with me last night and is connected to you is Jovian, Your Highness. Was I wrong to think it was him?”
“You seem to have done your homework,” Austin said with a humorless chuckle.
He continued, “Mr. Prescott, you know my temperament. If you confess to anything, it might go easier for you.”
“Tell me the truth, and I can spare your life. But if you choose to be stubborn and fight to the end, don’t say I didn’t warn you about my cruelty,” said Austin.
Warrick stood tall and replied, “If I am guilty, I will accept my punishment. But first, Your Highness, I want to see the evidence against me. If you plan to accuse me without proof, I won’t accept that. The soldiers of West Lucozia won’t either.”
Austin nodded. “Alright, if that’s how you want to play, I’ll play along.”
He waved his hand and ordered, “Escort Mr. Prescott back to his room. Bring in Mr. Thatcher.”
