An Understated Dominance - Chapter 27
“He is my father.” Dustin was taken aback. He didn’t expect them to be related. “I heard Trevor has a son named Edward. Who are you then?”
“My name is Mason. I’m Trevor’s illegitimate son.” The man lowered his head as he spoke, “Trevor forced himself on my mother and got her pregnant. To protect his reputation, he kept my existence a secret and made me his foster son instead.”
“So, you hate him?” Dustin asked.
“Yes!” Mason clenched his teeth, filled with anger. “He abandoned my mother and me, leaving us poor for years. Now, he’s just using me to help Edward. I won’t let them walk all over me again. I need to reclaim what’s mine!”
“Good,” Dustin said, nodding in approval. “Since you’re ambitious, I’ll help you. If you follow my lead, I’ll not only help you rise up but also help you take control of Swinton.”
“Thank you!” Mason exclaimed, overwhelmed with gratitude. He immediately knelt to show his appreciation. He recognized that Dustin was an impressive man. After all, he single-handedly took down the entire Drey Group. Working with Dustin would surely brighten Mason’s future.
“You can call me Mr. Rhys. If you need anything next time, just call me. All I ask is for your loyalty,” Dustin reminded him.
“I swear to be loyal to you until the day I die, Mr. Rhys!” Mason promised, determined. “You know what to do from here, right?”
“Yes. Whatever happened today is my responsibility. You have nothing to worry about,” Mason replied wisely.
“You’re smart,” Dustin smiled. He saw potential in Mason.
Just then, the phone on the table vibrated. Only after getting Dustin’s permission did Mason pick it up.
Mason answered the call.
“Hey, what’s going on? You want 50 million dollars? I heard you haven’t paid back your bank loan and are going bankrupt. Are you trying to use me? I don’t have time for your problems. Goodbye.” Mason hung up without a second thought.
“What was that about?” Dustin asked.
“It’s nothing. A guy named David Nolan was asking for a loan—50 million dollars,” Mason replied.
“David? Doesn’t he have a son named Chris?” Dustin raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, I think so. How do you know?” Mason asked, intrigued.
“Never mind. Tell me more,” Dustin urged.
“Well, I would have considered lending him the money in the past because that’s what my company does. But I just found out that Nolan Pharmaceuticals is being investigated for selling fake drugs, although the news isn’t public yet. How can I lend money to a company that’s about to go under? What if they just take the money and run?” Mason explained.
“You’re right. You seem to know how to handle business. Taking over Trevor’s company shouldn’t be a problem for you,” Dustin nodded in approval.
“Thanks for the compliment, Mr. Rhys,” Mason replied respectfully.
“Alright, clean this up. I’m leaving now. We’ll talk again if needed.” Without wasting any time, Dustin changed into a clean outfit and walked out of the Drey Group.
This was his first time going on a killing spree in ten years. He felt calm, almost peaceful. Compared to what he’d experienced a decade ago, this was easy.
“Honk! Honk!”
Just as Dustin was about to hail a taxi home, a yellow sports car zoomed toward him, its engine roaring. Just when it looked like it would hit him, the car skidded to a stop.
The car window rolled down, and a beautiful girl appeared. She had a ponytail and looked about 18 years old—youthful and striking.
“Hey, Rhys, get in!” she called, waving at him.
“Who are you?” Dustin asked, confused.
“Wow, did you really forget me already? We met yesterday!” the girl said, sounding annoyed. She believed her natural beauty always caught people’s attention.
