An Understated Dominance - Chapter 36
Chris’s words made everyone uneasy. How could they let this chance to make money slip away?
“Chris, ignore him. He’s just jealous of you. We all believe in you!” Florence quickly defended Chris.
“That’s right! You promised us about the stocks. You can’t just forget that,” someone else added.
Everyone nodded, and they all turned to glare at Dustin.
“Dustin Rhys, don’t stop us from making our fortune! If you do, you won’t get off easy!” one person shouted.
“Yeah! Just go away if you want to keep talking nonsense!” another chimed in.
The crowd murmured in agreement. They believed Dustin was trying to ruin Chris’s chances and had bad intentions.
“Do you all really trust Chris? Has no one ever wondered if he’s lying?” Dustin asked, looking frustrated.
“That’s none of your business! We’ll do what we want!” James replied angrily.
“Exactly! Even if we get cheated, it will be on our own terms! It has nothing to do with you! You’re such a busybody!” Florence said, looking at him with disdain.
Dustin smirked at their reactions. He seemed amused by their stubbornness.
“Since you all love giving away your money, forget I said anything,” he said, shaking his head. It was pointless to try to warn them. They were so blinded by the promise of money that they wouldn’t listen. He almost looked forward to seeing their reactions when they realized they had been scammed.
“If you can’t say something nice, just be quiet! You’re such a disappointment!” Florence snapped at him.
She would have kicked him out if it weren’t for Henry.
“Okay, this is just a misunderstanding. Dustin must have misunderstood something,” Henry said, trying to calm everyone down.
the table, laughing and chatting happily.
“Yeah! It’s all just a misunderstanding,” John said with a smile, trying to shift the conversation.
“Oh, Dahlia, you mentioned starting a company with the Harmon family. How’s that going?” he asked.
Dahlia beamed. “I’ve partnered with the Harmon family and signed the contract! Our new company will officially launch in just two days, and we’re having an opening ceremony then. You’re welcome to join us if you can!”
John was excited. “That’s amazing! I’ll definitely be there!”
Henry chimed in, “I didn’t expect you to partner with the Harmon family. This will really help us establish a stronger presence in Swinton.”
Dahlia nodded. “Chris was a huge help in making this happen. Without him pulling some strings, we wouldn’t even have had the chance to partner with the Harmon family.”
James added, “And today, when Trevor tried to give Dahlia a hard time, Chris called Mr. Anderson to help her out!”
“That’s great to hear! Thank you, Chris!” James raised his glass for a toast.
“It was nothing. I was just helping,” Chris replied, raising his glass back.
“You must have some influence to get Mr. Anderson involved. It’s funny how some people think the Nolan family is going bankrupt,” James said, shaking his head in disbelief.
Dustin quietly sipped his wine, pretending not to hear. He knew the truth but decided not to speak up. No one would believe him anyway. The truth would come out when the Nolan family faced their downfall.
As they continued to drink, the atmosphere relaxed even more. While Dustin felt left out, Chris was the star of the evening, surrounded by laughter and conversation.
Edwin Hummer sat in the Hummer Villa the next morning, enjoying tea with an old man named Mr. Lawson. As the richest man in Swinton, Edwin was in high spirits, but he was also feeling regretful.
“It’s too bad the lady was so careful and left before the drug I gave her could take effect. I really wanted to have her under my control!” he said with a sigh.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Hummer,” Lawson replied with a grin. “She doesn’t have the antidote for the drug. If she wants to survive, she’ll have to come to you. Then you can have your way with her.”
Edwin’s eyes sparkled with excitement. He had been wanting to get close to Natasha, a beautiful and challenging woman. The thought of being with her thrilled him.
Just then, a bodyguard approached Edwin and whispered in his ear. “What? Trevor is dead?” Edwin’s expression turned serious.
“Who did it? Who dared to touch my men?” Trevor was Edwin’s trusted right-hand man, and his death was a significant loss.
“It’s rumored that it was his adopted son, Mason. He was eager to take over Trevor’s position,” the bodyguard explained.
“Mason?” Edwin narrowed his eyes. “That kid is ruthless. He wouldn’t even spare his adoptive father?”
“Mr. Hummer, I suspect there’s more to this,” Lawson said, stroking his beard.
“Really? What do you mean?” Edwin asked, curious.
“Trevor called me yesterday, asking for help with someone connected to Hunter Anderson. I was planning to discuss it with him today, but now he’s gone,” Lawson replied.
“So you think this might be connected?” Edwin pondered, starting to piece things together.
“Do you think that person killed Trevor?” Edwin quickly realized what Fletcher was suggesting.
“That’s possible!” Fletcher agreed, nodding his head. “If that person is connected to Hunter, then this situation is more complicated than it looks.” Edwin rubbed his chin, lost in thought.
He had focused all his efforts on the Harmon family, and if he provoked Hunter, it could lead to trouble for him, especially if both families teamed up.
“Sir Hummer, I have an idea if you’re worried about causing trouble,” Fletcher said.
“Please, share it,” Edwin replied.
“Trevor has an older brother, Travis. I heard he’s serving in a warzone in the west. He’s a lieutenant commanding thousands of troops. We could just inform him about Trevor’s death and let him handle it. Then we can sit back and watch what happens!” Fletcher grinned, a sinister look in his eyes.
“That’s a brilliant idea!” Edwin’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “With someone as reckless as Travis taking charge, we can definitely use him!”
Meanwhile, in the Jackson Group’s office, Dahlia had just taken her seat when Lyra knocked on her door and walked in.
“Ms. Nicholson! We have a problem!” Lyra exclaimed.
“What is it?” Dahlia felt a wave of anxiety wash over her.
“I heard there was a massacre at the Drey Group, and Trevor was killed!” Lyra’s words shocked Dahlia.
“What? Trevor was murdered?” Dahlia was speechless. He was Sir Spanner, the King of the Underground in East City, known for dealing with both legal and illegal businesses. How could he be dead?
They had just seen each other yesterday.
“I don’t know all the details yet, but the news is spreading fast,” Lyra said quietly. “Ms. Nicholson, do you think this could involve Dustin?”
“Dustin?” Dahlia replied, her mind racing.
