An Understated Dominance - Chapter 37
The next morning at the Hummer Villa, Edwin, the richest man in Swinton, was enjoying a cup of tea with an older man named Fletcher.
“Mr. Lawson, it’s a shame the lady was so careful and left before the drug could take effect. I would have definitely had her under my control,” Edwin sighed.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Hummer. She doesn’t have the antidote for the drug I gave her. She’ll come to you begging if she wants to stay alive. Then you can have your way with her,” Fletcher joked.
“Really? That’s great!” Edwin’s eyes brightened. He had been wanting to conquer a woman like Natasha for a long time, and just the thought of being with her excited him.
“Sir Hummer…”
Suddenly, a bodyguard approached and whispered urgently in Edwin’s ear. “What? Trevor is dead?”
Edwin’s expression turned serious. “Who did this? Who would dare to harm my men?” Trevor was his right-hand man and losing him was a big blow for Edwin.
“It’s rumored that his adopted son, Mason, did it. He was eager to take over Trevor’s position, so he killed him,” the bodyguard explained.
“Mason?” Edwin narrowed his eyes. “That guy is ruthless. He wouldn’t even spare his own adoptive father?”
“Mr. Hummer, I think there’s something suspicious about this,” Fletcher said, looking concerned.
“Really? What are you thinking?” Edwin asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Trevor called me yesterday. He wanted me to get rid of someone connected to Hunter Anderson. I was going to ask him about it today, but I didn’t expect him to die so soon,” Fletcher said as he stroked his beard thoughtfully.
“So you think this person had a hand in Trevor’s death?” Edwin quickly caught on to Fletcher’s thought.
“It’s possible!” Fletcher nodded. “If this person is linked to Hunter, then things are more complicated than they appear.”
Edwin rubbed his chin, lost in thought. He had invested all his energy into this situation, and he needed to figure it out.
Hummer was worried about drawing the attention of the Harmon family. If he provoked Hunter, both families might team up against him, which could lead to serious trouble.
“Sir Hummer, I have an idea if you’re worried about causing trouble,” said Fletcher.
“Go ahead,” Hummer replied.
“Doesn’t Trevor have an older brother named Travis? I heard he’s serving in a warzone out west as a lieutenant, commanding thousands of men. We could tell him about Trevor’s death and let him handle it. Then, we can just sit back and watch everything unfold!” Fletcher’s smile was devious.
“That’s a brilliant idea!” Edwin’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “With a reckless man like Travis leading the way, we can definitely take advantage of this.”
Meanwhile, in the Jackson Group office, Dahlia had just sat down when Lyra knocked and walked in.
“Ms. Nicholson! Something terrible has happened!” Lyra exclaimed.
“What is it?” Dahlia’s heart raced.
“I heard there was a massacre at the Drey Group, and Trevor was murdered!” Lyra’s news stunned her.
“What? Trevor was murdered?” Dahlia was in shock. Trevor was known as Sir Spanner, the King of the Underground in East City, who dealt with both legal and illegal businesses. How could he be dead? They had just seen each other yesterday.
“I’m not sure about the details, but the news is spreading,” Lyra said quietly. “Do you think this could be connected to Dustin?”
“Dustin?” Dahlia frowned. “I don’t think so. Even if he fights well, he wouldn’t have the guts to kill someone.”
“That might not be the case,” Lyra replied, shaking her head. “As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. Trevor would not let this go unpunished.”
Dahlia frowned at the thought. “It’s possible that Dustin might risk everything to protect himself,” she said.
Lyra smiled and replied, “At least Trevor is gone now. We don’t have to worry about him anymore. Maybe Dustin did a good thing.”
Dahlia shook her head. “It’s not that simple. Trevor was able to act without fear because he had someone powerful backing him. That’s who we really need to worry about.”
“Who is this person?” Lyra asked, intrigued.
