Jayla finally understood that she had been tricked, and she knew she could only blame herself. Sure, she could demand a refund from the auctioneer, given the power of the Grant family, but that would only lead to harsh criticism. She couldn’t bear the thought of being humiliated. To protect her reputation, she had to swallow her anger.

Roderick made things worse. “Ms. Grant, it seems the item you bought for so much isn’t as valuable as you thought.”

“You can’t say that! Even if it’s not as old, it’s still a precious treasure,” a man in a long-sleeved shirt tried to defend her.

“Did you hear that? Even if it’s lacking, it’s still precious!” Jayla felt a flicker of hope.

Dustin, however, had a question. “What’s the value of a 900-year green lotus?”

After some hesitation, the man replied, “Considering its age and effectiveness, it should be worth around three to four hundred million.”

“What? Only three to four hundred million?” Jayla was shocked. She had bought it for three billion! That was a huge loss—ten times what she paid!

Roderick laughed mockingly. “Ms. Grant, with your wealth, that amount is just pocket change.”

Jayla was at a loss for words. Her expression soured as she realized she was the real loser in this situation.

The man in the long-sleeved shirt spoke up, “Mr. Brooks, you shouldn’t make fun of her. Ms. Grant may have lost a lot, but your purchase isn’t exactly a great deal either.”

“That’s right!” Jayla’s eyes sparkled with newfound confidence. She pointed at the gemstone Roderick was holding and said, “Even if my treasure is younger, at least it has value!”

“At least it’s much more useful than your item! Just look at yourselves, you fools! You spent two billion on a simple gemstone. Anyone can see it’s just a processed stone.”

Roderick replied calmly, “It’s hard to put a price on happiness. As long as we like it, what’s a few billion?”

“That’s exactly why you two are fools!” she sneered. “I forgot to mention, the Grant family is the one who found this red gemstone. So, that two billion you just spent? It went straight into my pockets. Surprising, huh?”

Roderick frowned at her words. He didn’t mind losing a bit of money, but being tricked and called an idiot didn’t sit well with him. In a serious tone, he said, “Ms. Grant, you raised the price on purpose.”

“And what about it? Go ahead and sue me if you think you can,” she shrugged.

“Regardless, I’m taking this two billion dollars. Let’s see what you can do if you’re unhappy about it!” She smirked, looking very pleased with herself.

Roderick narrowed his eyes in frustration but kept quiet, wary of her family’s power.

Dustin suddenly asked, “Ms. Grant, are you saying this red gemstone is from the Grant family?”

“That’s right! I personally brought it here to be auctioned. Why? Not happy about that?” she taunted, full of arrogance.

“Of course I’m happy! If it weren’t for your help, how could I buy this treasure for just two billion?” he replied with a smile.

“Are you crazy? What treasure? You spent two billion on something worth only two to three hundred million! What makes you say that?” she laughed loudly, looking at him as if he were foolish.

“Young man, is it really that hard to admit…”

“Are you lost? Do you really need to be so stubborn?”
