An Understated Dominance - Chapter 38
“Edwin Hummer, the richest man in Swinton!” Dahlia replied.
“What? Sir Hummer?”
Lyra gasped in shock, as if she had seen a ghost. Everyone in Swinton knew that Sir Hummer’s word was law.
Trevor was important in East City, but Sir Hummer was the real power in Swinton. He could get anything he wanted with just a snap of his fingers. His influence stretched across business, politics, and the military.
Anyone who crossed Sir Hummer faced serious consequences.
“Ms. Nicholson, please tell me this doesn’t involve Sir Hummer,” Lyra said, swallowing hard.
“It’s hard to say. Trevor worked for Sir Hummer. With Trevor suddenly dead, Sir Hummer will definitely want to find out what happened. It could be a problem if Dustin is involved,” Dahlia said, her face darkening.
“Even if that’s true, it’s Dustin’s fault, not ours, right?” Lyra asked cautiously.
“It depends on how Sir Hummer views the situation. If he thinks we’re connected, we could be in big trouble!” Dahlia replied.
“What!” Lyra exclaimed, panicking. She could handle Trevor, but just thinking about Edwin Hummer made her legs shake.
“Ms. Nicholson, why don’t we ask Chris Nolan for help? He could get Mr. Anderson involved,” Lyra suggested quickly.
“I’ve already asked Chris for too many favors. I don’t want to burden him more,” Dahlia said, shaking her head.
“Then what do we do? If Sir Hummer looks into this, we’re both in serious trouble!” Lyra cried.
“Calm down. I’m now working with the Harmon family. Once we have their support after our company launch tomorrow, Sir Hummer won’t be too hard on us,” Dahlia explained.
“That’s right! We have the Harmon family!” Lyra smiled. “As long as we have their backing, we’ll be okay.”
The ceremony went well, and soon we would be with the Harmon family after the announcement.
“Nobody will dare bully us now!”
Everyone was counting on the Harmon family for help.
Later that evening, outside Spanner Manor, a convoy of military vehicles arrived, roaring loudly. The lead car displayed a flag that read “Western War Zone.”
When the vehicle stopped, soldiers dressed in heavy armor began to step out, one after another. A tense atmosphere filled the air.
“Sir, we have arrived!” a commander said as he approached the car and saluted.
The door opened, and a strong, middle-aged man in battle armor emerged. This was Travis Spanner, the lieutenant of the western war zone.
“Uncle Travis! You’re finally here!”
At that moment, the doors of the manor slowly opened. Edward limped out, supported by two men.
“Let me see the body,” Travis ordered.
Edward nodded and quickly led the way. At the entrance of the living room, they found a coffin. Inside lay Trevor, his eyes tightly closed.
“What happened? Why did your father die so suddenly?” Travis asked, his anger palpable. He only had one brother, and he was furious over his murder.
“It was Mason! That ungrateful brat killed Dad!” Edward cried.
“Mason? He wouldn’t have the guts to do that,” Travis replied, narrowing his eyes.
Edward’s face twisted with hatred. “Of course, he didn’t do it alone. He must have teamed up with someone from outside who wanted to take advantage of the situation!”
“Did your dad make any enemies recently?” Travis asked.
“Well… Dad often upset people, but they’re not…”
“All the people who don’t matter,” Edward explained.
