An Understated Dominance - Chapter 385
A Mercedes-Benz pulled up in front of a villa with a beautiful view of the river. “Dahlia, I’m not going with you. I spilled tea on Madam Gloria yesterday. She’s not going to be happy to see me,” Dustin laughed.
“That’s okay. Just wait for me here. I’ll be back soon.” Dahlia nodded firmly and walked into the villa alone. Inside, Gloria was enjoying her tea, with Dakota sitting beside her, giving her a gentle massage.
“Madam, Dahlia is here to see you,” an elderly woman announced respectfully. “Why is she here? Is she just begging for mercy because she knows she can’t do anything right?” Dakota asked, sounding confused.
Gloria set her teacup down and replied calmly, “Let her in.”
“Yes, Madam.” The elderly servant went and brought Dahlia into the villa. “What do you need from me?” Gloria asked, looking at Dahlia.

“Madam Gloria, I have completed your request. Here’s a check for one billion dollars. Please take a look.” Dahlia handed Gloria the check.
“A billion dollar check? Are you kidding?” Dakota grabbed the check but her expression changed when she saw the amount. “T-there’s a billion here!”
“Let me see that.” Gloria took the check and examined it. Her face twisted in displeasure. “Dahlia, it’s only been a day. Where did you get this money?”
Gloria knew Dahlia’s family couldn’t raise that much money in such a short time. Something was definitely off.
“You don’t need to worry about that. I have my connections,” Dahlia said, avoiding a full explanation.
“Hmph! The Nicholson Family has always been honest and upright! If your money comes from a bad source, I won’t accept it!” Gloria warned her coldly.
“That’s right!
“Who knows? That money might have come from a robbery or theft! If you don’t explain it clearly, we won’t let you go!” Dakota repeated what Gloria said.
“If you’re curious, I’ll tell you the truth. Dustin borrowed the money,” Dahlia said without trying to hide it.
“Dustin?” Dakota looked confused at first, then disgusted. “Oh, Dahlia, you need a better excuse than that! The useless Dustin Rhys could never get his hands on a billion dollars worth of investments!”
“Whether you believe it or not is up to you. But we have the money you asked for,” Dahlia replied calmly.
“Sure, but it’s not enough,” Gloria suddenly interjected. After the initial shock of the check,

Florence was glowing with excitement like never before.
“I’m fine. I’m not hungry,” Dustin said, shaking his head. This was the first time in three years of marriage that Florence had treated him so warmly. He wondered if it was the influence of money.
“Mom, you should go get the groceries. I need to go out with Dustin, and we’ll have a meal at home later,” Dahlia suggested suddenly.
“Where are you going?” Florence asked.
“We’re going to make Madam Gloria keep her promise. Now that we have a billion dollars in investments, they can’t say anything, even if they don’t want to make me the chairman!” Dahlia said with a bright smile.
“Okay! Go and get that chairman position!” Florence encouraged her daughter excitedly.
Once Dahlia became the chairman of Cardinal Group, she would be one step closer to leading the Nicholson Family, and everyone else would benefit too.

come from illegal activities!” Dakota added, crossing her arms with a skeptical look.
Dahlia took a deep breath. “I assure you, Madam Gloria, the money is legitimate. I wouldn’t bring it to you otherwise.”
Gloria raised an eyebrow, still not convinced. “You expect me to believe you just got your hands on a billion dollars in one day?”
“Madam, I understand your concerns, but I have been working hard to secure this amount. Please trust me,” Dahlia pleaded.
Gloria leaned back in her chair, sipping her tea thoughtfully. “Very well. I will accept the check for now, but if I find out it is not clean money, there will be consequences.”
Dahlia nodded, relieved. “Thank you, Madam. I appreciate your understanding.”
Dakota frowned but said nothing more, still clearly doubtful about Dahlia’s story.
As Dahlia turned to leave, she felt a mix of relief and anxiety. She had managed to impress Gloria, but she knew she had to be careful. The weight of the check in her pocket felt heavy, reminding her of the risks she had taken.
Outside, Dustin was waiting. “Did it go well?” he asked, a curious look on his face.
Dahlia smiled weakly. “I think so. But we need to be cautious. This is just the beginning.”
“Come on, this has to be from a robbery or theft! If you don’t have a good explanation, we’re not letting you off the hook!” Dakota repeated what Gloria said.
“If you really want to know, I’ll tell you the truth. Dustin borrowed the money,” Dahlia said without trying to hide it.
“Dustin?” Dakota looked confused at first, then gave a disdainful scoff. “Oh, Dahlia, you need to come up with a better story than that! That lazy guy, Dustin Rhys, could never get his hands on a billion dollars in investments!”
“Believe it or not, it’s your choice. At the end of the day, we have the money you wanted,” Dahlia replied calmly.
“Sure, you do. But it’s not enough,” Gloria suddenly interrupted. After being surprised by the check, she quickly came up with a new plan.
“Excuse me?” Dahlia raised an eyebrow. “Madam Gloria, you said you wanted one billion for investments. Why do you now say it’s not enough?”
“I did say that. But the one billion dollars you gave me is not for investments; it’s for compensation,” Gloria said confidently.
“Dustin Rhys splashed hot tea in my face, and I was burned because of it. You should see the one billion as payment for my medical bills,” she continued.
“What?” Dahlia’s face changed as she heard this unreasonable request. One billion for being burned by tea? That was outrageous!
“Madam Gloria, don’t you think you’re asking for too much?” Dahlia frowned. She expected Gloria to be difficult, but this was just ridiculous.
“Too much?” Gloria laughed. “That monster, Dustin Rhys, burned my face! If we went by the rules, I should have broken his legs. But I’ll let him off easy if I get what I deserve.”
“Get that one billion as compensation!” Dakota exclaimed.
“Yeah! One billion dollars for his legs. It’s a great deal for him!” Dakota agreed. She had been trying hard to think of a way to break the promise, but she was impressed that Gloria found a solution so quickly. Gloria really was clever!
