An Understated Dominance - Chapter 39
Travis frowned. “So, you don’t know anything after all? It all happened too quickly. I was confused for a while.”
“Useless! You’re no better than a scoundrel!” Travis scoffed coldly. He didn’t want to say anything more and gave an order. “Someone investigate this immediately! I want to know who the murderer is, even if it means turning all of Swinton upside down!”
Just when everyone thought the situation with Trevor’s death was calming down, there was a surprising announcement the next day. The Harmon family had chosen a partner, and today was the opening ceremony of their new company. As soon as the news broke, everyone started to congratulate them.
By 8:00 a.m., fancy cars were lined up outside the Emerald Building. However, Natasha, one of the key guests, was missing. Instead, she was enjoying a coffee at a café.
“Over here, Mr. Rhys!” She jumped up and waved as soon as she saw Dustin walk in.
“Isn’t today the opening ceremony of your new company? Why did you want to meet here?” he asked as he took a seat across from her.
Natasha was dressed in a white blouse and a skirt. Her dark hair was tied up in a bun, which made her look more sophisticated. The blouse fit snugly around her chest.
“It’s just the opening ceremony. A date with you is much more important,” Natasha said playfully, her bright red lips looking irresistible.
“Ms. Harmon, please, let’s talk business,” Dustin said, feeling a bit flustered.
“Alright, no more games,” she smiled and asked, “Mr. Rhys, does Trevor’s death have anything to do with you?”
“Why do you ask?” Dustin raised an eyebrow.
“I’m just curious. Even though Trevor was reckless, he had many men. It wouldn’t be easy to kill him. I thought for a while, and…”
“It seems that only you, Mr. Rhys, have the ability to help,” Natasha said, lost in thought.
“Haha! Ms. Harmon, you think too highly of me,” Dustin replied with a laugh, avoiding a direct answer.
“Trevor’s death isn’t the real issue. It won’t change things in Swinton. The real problem lies with the people behind him,” Natasha continued.
“Are you referring to Edwin Hummer?” Dustin asked.
“Yes, he’s one of them. However, he won’t harm himself because of Trevor’s death. He’s easier to handle,” Natasha explained. “But Trevor has other supporters.”
“Really? Who?” Dustin inquired.
“His brother, Travis. He’s a powerful lieutenant, and we can’t underestimate him,” Natasha said seriously.
Even the Harmon family preferred not to confront military figures. This was why she hadn’t retaliated when Trevor had kidnapped her.
“Thanks for the heads-up, Ms. Harmon. I’ll remember this,” Dustin said, feeling grateful.
“Oh, there’s something else.” Natasha shifted the topic. “I found out about the ambergris. The one who drugged me is Mr. Lawson.”
“Mr. Lawson? What do you know about him?” Dustin asked.
“He’s similar to Trevor. He’s Edwin’s right-hand man, but his background is unclear. He operates in the shadows, giving advice and engaging in shady activities,” Natasha explained.
“What’s your plan?” Dustin asked.
“I want to cut off Edwin’s support and teach him a lesson! But my men can’t handle this kind of situation, so I need your help,” Natasha pleaded gently.
“Just lure him out, and I’ll create a chance for you to deal with him,” Dustin responded casually.
“Thank you, Mr. Rhys!” Natasha said, relieved.
Natasha smiled and said, “I’ve invited Edwin to the new company opening today. Mr. Lawson will be there too, so you can go ahead with your plan then.”
“Okay,” Dustin replied with a nod.
“Mr. Rhys, it’s almost time. Let’s go,” she reminded him.
They didn’t stay long. After finishing their coffee, they made their way to the Emerald building.
As they arrived, they noticed a large crowd gathered outside. When they got out of the car, they saw Dahlia and her family entering the venue. Since Dahlia was part of the new company, it made sense for the Nicholson family to be there.
“Dustin, why do I keep running into you?” a voice called from behind. Dustin turned to see Chris Nolan.
