An Understated Dominance - Chapter 398
Dakota grunted as her body shook, then went still. Her voice faded away, and the darkness around her and Edwin’s cruel face began to blur. Finally, she fell flat on the ground with a loud thud. Everything had happened so quickly; she never thought she would die like this.
“Is she dead?” Florence and the others trembled with fear as they looked at Dakota and Gloria lying lifeless. It felt surreal to see the two arrogant women who had bullied so many now gone.
Dustin watched the scene with little emotion. For him, it was simply evil being defeated. Dakota and Gloria had always been bullies, refusing to learn from their mistakes. They even came after him for revenge. Their deaths didn’t bother him; he had never been a merciful person. He had no problem getting rid of troublemakers with a few clever tricks.
“Hah! How does that feel?” Edwin laughed cruelly. “Are you feeling the rage and pain? You must want to kill me right now!” He paused for dramatic effect. “To be honest, this is just the beginning. I have more hostages. We can keep playing this game.”
He walked over to James and aimed the gun at his head. “Your brother-in-law is next. Kneel or don’t—it’s your choice.”

“Sir Hummer! I’m not part of this! Please don’t shoot me!” James’s legs turned to jelly, and he fell to his knees, crying, “You’ve got the wrong person! If you want revenge, just kill Dustin! I’m innocent!”
“That’s right, Sir Hummer!” Florence pleaded desperately. “We’ve never done anything to you. If you want to kill Dustin, go ahead. Just don’t hurt my son!”
“Dustin Rhys is your son-in-law. His actions will bring down the whole family.”
“Dreaming of getting out of this unharmed? Well, your son’s fate is now in Dustin’s hands,” Edwin said, giving her a mocking smile.
“Dustin Rhys, you bring us nothing but bad luck! Look at the mess you’ve caused! Kneel to Sir Hummer and beg for forgiveness. If you don’t, I won’t let this go!” Florence yelled at Dustin, panic and anger in her voice.
“What are you waiting for? Kneel! I’ll die if you don’t!” James shouted, his eyes red with fear. He was shaking, terrified after witnessing Edwin’s brutality when he killed Gloria and Dakota. Edwin shot without hesitation when he was angry, and James didn’t want to meet a pointless end like Dakota.
“Edwin Hummer, I will spare your life if you let them go,” Dustin said calmly.
“Spare my life?” Edwin laughed. “Oh, Dustin, you still don’t understand! I’m in control here. I decide who lives and who dies! What can you do if I shoot your brother-in-law right now?”
As he spoke, he was ready to pull the trigger. Suddenly, Dustin flicked his fingers, and a silver needle struck Edwin’s wrist. Edwin grunted in pain as his arm went limp.
“Get moving! Run!” Dustin urged the others in the room. “Run! Now!”
Florence and James finally gathered their wits and fled. James stumbled a few times, his legs weak from fear. Dustin frowned at him, thinking, “What a loser!” Luckily, quick-thinking Dahlia helped her brother up and rushed him out of the villa.
None of them wanted to die with Edwin, who had bombs strapped to his body.
“Edwin Hummer, it’s just you and me now. It’s time to put an end to this,” Dustin said, moving closer to Edwin with a look of anger in his eyes. Edwin had been on his hit list for a long time. Dustin regretted letting him live.
“Die!” Edwin shouted, picking up a gun from the floor. He fired twice, hitting Dustin in the chest.
