An Understated Dominance - Chapter 40
“Dahlia didn’t invite you, did she? Are you really that shameless?” Chris scoffed. “I invited Dustin. What’s your problem with that?”
Natasha stepped forward, her confident stance causing Chris to back away.
“Wow! You need a woman to stand up for you? What a pathetic man!” Chris sneered. “And you! You’ll regret being with this loser!”
“What does that have to do with you? Leave me alone!” Natasha shot back. She wrapped her arms around Dustin and walked into the hall, ignoring him.
“Stupid girl! You think you’re so special! I’ll have you in bed one day!” Chris muttered through clenched teeth, watching them go. He couldn’t understand why someone like Dustin attracted women.
“Chris, are you joining the fun?” A stylish man stepped out of a fancy car.
“Hey! Isn’t that Jeff Anderson? You’re here too?” Chris’s face lit up.
It was Jeff Anderson, the son of Hunter Anderson!
“I came for the Harmon family’s new company launch,” Jeff said with a smile.
“Jeff! The Harmon family is lucky to have you at their opening ceremony!” Chris flattered him.
“Come on! Even my dad respects the Steel Lady. She’s a business genius! I can’t compare to her,” Jeff replied humbly.
“Don’t sell yourself short,” Chris said, grinning. He quickly shifted the topic. “Speaking of the Steel Lady, I’ve never seen her. Is she really as beautiful as they say?”
“Among the Four Beauties of Swinton, Natasha is the best. Her beauty is unmatched. Too bad no man can win her over,” Jeff said, sounding a bit sad.
“Not even you?” Chris was shocked.
“Come on! I—”
“I would be honored to even carry her shoes!” Jeff rolled his eyes. He knew better than to speak casually about someone of equal status to his father.
“If you’re not worth it, what chance do the rest of us have?” Chris sighed.
“Honestly, someone like the Steel Lady doesn’t care about a man’s background. If she likes him, even a poor man can become a prince!” Jeff replied.
“Someone that lucky doesn’t exist!” Chris shook his head.
“That’s hard to say,” Jeff chuckled. “I heard a rumor that the Steel Lady has found a boyfriend. She’s even planning to help him rise to the top in Swinton.”
“Really? Is that true?” Chris asked, his body trembling with excitement.
“Why would I lie about this? You’ll see for yourself soon,” Jeff teased.
“Who is lucky enough to catch her eye?” Chris narrowed his eyes, feeling a mix of jealousy and admiration. The Steel Lady was a business genius, one of the wealthiest people in Swinton. She had money, power, and beauty—she was as rare as a four-leaf clover.
“I don’t know who he is, but if you could befriend him, your future could be bright!” Jeff said.
“Now I really want to know this guy!” Chris’s eyes sparkled with interest. “Jeff, you’re influential. Can you introduce me?”
“An introduction? I don’t even know him yet, and you want me to introduce you?” Jeff replied, feeling frustrated.
Before coming here, his father had asked him to make friends with this new guy. If they could become close, he wouldn’t have to worry about his future.
“I’ve told you all I can. It’s up to you to change your fate.” Jeff said this with a wave of his hand as he walked into the venue, not wanting to say anything else.
Chris followed him in, feeling a bit apologetic. He was eager to meet this person. With the Nolan family facing bankruptcy, he hoped to get help from the Harmon family. If he could connect with this guy, maybe they could solve the problem together.
Then he wouldn’t have to run away with the money.
