Just then, Dustin’s phone rang. It was Dahlia calling. “Where are you? You promised to be with me on my first day at Nicholson Corp. Are you ditching me?” she asked.

“No, not at all. I got held up but I’ll be there soon,” Dustin replied.

“Where are you? I can come pick you up,” she offered.

“I’m at Pinevale Hospital,” he said.

After ending the call, he turned to Abigail and said, “Please take care of Mr. Robinson. Call me if anything happens. I have to go now.”

“Yes, Sir, please be careful!” Abigail reminded him. He smiled back at her. “Don’t worry. The Hills won’t bother me.”

Twenty minutes later, a blue Maserati pulled up to the hospital entrance. The window rolled down, revealing a beautiful woman. “Why are you just standing there? Get in!” she urged him with a nod.

“Right away,” he said as he climbed into the driver’s seat, smiling. “Chairman Nicholson, it looks like you’ve been busy.”

“Wow, you got a new car!”

“Stop it!” She rolled her eyes at him. “I need to talk about work. I might face some issues at the board meeting later. You should be ready for that.”

“Issues? But you’re the chairman. Who would dare to challenge you?” He looked curious.

“I’m new here and became chairman without a loyal team. It’s tough to take charge,” she replied, shaking her head. “Plus, people are eyeing my position. The biggest threat is a guy named Hank Hoffman.”

“Hank Hoffman? Who is he?” Dustin asked.

“He’s the vice chairman of Nicholson Corp. He’s loyal to Madam Alma, Regulus’s first wife, because she helped his career. He has more experience and connections than I do. Hank is respected by everyone in the company.”

“But he can’t match your family’s reputation, right? Regulus Nicholson appointed you as chairman. They have to listen to him,” Dustin reassured her.

She nodded and said quietly, “I hope so.”

They talked during the drive and soon arrived at the Nicholson Corp. building. The company was worth billions and was well-known in Millsburg, located in a busy, upscale downtown area.

Once Dahlia and Dustin entered the office, they headed to the meeting room. To their surprise, it was filled with senior executives and shareholders.

At the head of the table sat a middle-aged man with a beer belly, a mole at the corner of his mouth, a red nose, and mousey eyes. His freckled face was not exactly appealing. This was Hank Hoffman, the vice chairman of Nicholson Corp.

“Dahlia,” he called out.

“You’re late. The board meeting has already started. Please take a seat,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. Hank was lounging in the chairman’s chair, showing no intention of moving. His disrespectful attitude only made her more frustrated.
