An Understated Dominance - Chapter 51
In the lounge of the Emerald building, Natasha approached Dustin with concern. “Mr. Rhys, are you hurt?” she asked, her eyes searching him for any sign of injury.
“I’m fine,” Dustin replied, shaking his head. “I’ve dealt with the twins. What’s our next move?”
Natasha took a breath. “Those two were important to Edwin. He’s going to be very worried now that they’re gone. We need to be careful not to push him too hard,” she said. Her goal was to teach Edwin a lesson, not to ruin their relationship. Taking it slow seemed like the best choice.
“Alright, it’s your call,” Dustin said, not pushing further. “But you should stay low for a while. I heard that Trevor’s brother, Travis, is back and he’s looking for the murderer.” Natasha’s expression turned serious. She knew better than to challenge someone in the military, especially someone like Travis, who was a general.
“Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll handle it,” Dustin said with a nod. The power that came with being a general was immense, and it could mean life or death for ordinary people.
But Dustin wasn’t too worried. Meanwhile, at Spanner Villa, Travis stood beside a coffin with his eyes closed. Outside the living room, members of the Spanner family were kneeling, heads bowed in silence. The tension in the room was thick.
Trevor’s sudden death, the disappearance of the traitor Mason, and the missing murderer left the entire Spanner family in shock.
“General! We have news!” An adjutant burst in.
“Who killed him?” Travis opened his eyes, filled with a fierce determination.
“We don’t know the murderer yet, but we’ve found someone connected to him,” the adjutant explained.
“Be more specific,” Travis demanded.
“According to our investigation, two people visited the Drey Group before Trevor’s death. One was Dahlia Nicholson, the president of the Quine Group. The other was Hunter Anderson, the president of Swinton’s Business Commerce!”
“Are they linked to the murderer?”
“Yes! Especially Dahlia. She played a part in Edward’s injury. She must know who the murderer is!” the adjutant explained.
“That’s right! She ruined my life! She must have someone skilled fighting for her. They could be the ones who killed my father!” Edward said, clearly upset.
“Gather the troops! Arrest her right away!” Travis ordered, standing up with determination. “I don’t care who the murderer is. I will ruin their entire family for killing someone from the Spanner family!”
That evening, the Nicholson family was celebrating Dahlia’s new company at a restaurant.
“Cheers to you, sis! I wish you great success!” James said, smiling as he raised his glass.
The others joined in, raising their glasses as well.
“Dahlia, since your company just started, I have a niece who graduated recently. Can you help her get a job?”
“Oh! I also have a cousin who’s looking for work. He has eight years of experience in business management. You should consider hiring him for a management position!”
After a few drinks, the conversation turned lively among the women.
“Hiring is managed by Human Resources. I usually don’t get involved in that. But if any of you have a good candidate, they can always send in their resume,” Dahlia replied professionally. Her company strongly opposed favoritism, and she typically stayed away from these discussions.
“Dahlia, listen to me. I heard that Dustin and Ms. Harmon are very close. If you won’t help us, we’ll ask Dustin!” one of them shouted.
“Hmph! Dustin is just a gold digger. He’s not even worthy of being in my sister’s shadow!” James replied coldly.
“That’s right! What can he do for you? Do you really think he could stand up to Ms. Harmon? Stop dreaming!” Florence chimed in with a scoff.
Why were they bringing him up? It was such a downer.
“But I heard Dustin was invited on stage at today’s opening ceremony,” someone else mentioned.
“So what? He didn’t say a single word. It was embarrassing!” another added.
“Exactly! He may seem to be living a glamorous life now, but he’s just a tool. Ms. Harmon will dump him when she’s done!”
Everyone nodded in agreement. What could Ms. Harmon possibly see in someone like Dustin? In the end, he was just a distraction. Once she lost interest, Dustin would be worthless.
“Hard work takes effort. Any man who relies on a woman is useless. The real talent is Chris!” James declared, giving Chris a big thumbs up.
Chris’s expression changed, and he looked uneasy. In the past, he would have laughed at Dustin, but after seeing his strength today, he realized Dustin was not ordinary.
“Alright, let’s stop talking about this and eat,” Dahlia said, hoping to change the subject. She didn’t want to hear Dustin or Natasha’s names. Just thinking about them together made her feel uneasy.
Suddenly, there was a commotion outside. The door burst open with a loud bang.
Bang!
A group of heavily armed guards burst in, their presence sending chills down everyone’s spine.
“Who is Dahlia Nicholson?” the lead soldier demanded, his eyes piercing and intense.
