An Understated Dominance - Chapter 53
Chris was shocked when Edward pointed him out. He never expected Edward to do that. He hadn’t done anything wrong, but somehow he was caught up in the situation.
“Tell me honestly, did you have anything to do with my dad’s death?” Edward shouted, glaring at him.
“No! I had nothing to do with it! I don’t know anything!” Chris replied, shaking his head in fear. Sweat ran down his forehead.
“Do you really not know, or do you just not want to tell me?” Edward narrowed his eyes.
“Mr. Spanner, I truly have no idea! This is all a misunderstanding!” Chris begged, desperate for mercy. He realized Edward was using this chance to settle their personal grudge, but he felt powerless to defend himself.
“Huh! It looks like you won’t talk without some pressure. Come on, beat him up!” Edward commanded, and two officers moved towards Chris.
“Wait!” James suddenly intervened. “Do you know who he is? He’s Chris Nolan from Nolan Pharmaceuticals! He’s also close with Mr. Anderson! If you touch him, Mr. Anderson won’t let it go!”
“See? Uncle Travis, he’s connected to Hunter Anderson! He must be one of the murderers!” Edward said excitedly, as if he had caught Chris admitting to a crime.
“So you’re Hunter’s accomplice in killing my brother?” Travis glared at Chris.
There were two main suspects in this case: Hunter Anderson and Dahlia Nicholson. Since Chris was linked to both, they believed he was involved.
“No! It wasn’t me!” Chris exclaimed, startled. He shook his head quickly. “I have nothing to do with Mr. Anderson! I don’t know anything! This whole thing is a misunderstanding!”
“Chris, why do you—”
“Why should you be scared of them? You have Mr. Anderson on your side. They wouldn’t dare touch you!” James said confidently.
“Shut up!” Chris yelled, overwhelmed with fear. He swung his arms wildly and accidentally slapped James across the face.
Mr. Anderson was nothing compared to the general who commanded thousands of troops. What could anyone do if he went crazy?
“Chris… why did you hit me?” James asked, holding his face in pain. “Didn’t you call Mr. Anderson for help when Sir Spanner was bothering my sister? Did I say something wrong?”
“Forget you! How dare you talk like that? Just be quiet!” Chris was on the verge of tears, sweat dripping from his forehead. Was James really this clueless?
“We have a witness and proof! I want to see how you explain this!” Edward sneered, enjoying the chaos. He didn’t expect to actually get anywhere with it.
“Edward, this guy is lying! I didn’t do anything. It was just a coincidence that Mr. Anderson showed up that day! They were the ones giving me all the credit!” Chris finally admitted the truth as things started spiraling out of control.
“Huh? Didn’t you help my sister?” James looked confused.
“Not at all!” Chris snapped back. “Do you really think I could just call for Mr. Anderson? Use your head! If I had that kind of power, I wouldn’t be broke!”
“What? Broke?” The entire Nicholson family froze in shock at his words.
“Fine, I won’t hide it anymore. Dustin was right. Nolan Pharmaceuticals is under investigation, and we’re going bankrupt. Now, it’s just an empty shell!”
Chris was done with it all. He wanted nothing more than to distance himself from the Nicholsons.
Florence couldn’t believe her ears. “You’re not joking, are you? You said the company was going public. How could it go bankrupt?”
Chris looked grim. “Going public? That’s nonsense! I just said that to fool you all! There’s no such thing! I wouldn’t even think of you if the dividends were real! Stop dreaming!” He was desperate to distance himself from the Nicholson family to save his own skin.
“Are you saying you’ve been lying to us?” Florence’s shock turned to disbelief.
“Exactly! I just wanted to grab some money and run. Who knew you’d be gullible enough to believe me!” Chris sneered.
“You monster! How could you cheat us out of our money? Pay us back!” Florence shouted, lunging at Chris. That money was her retirement savings, everything she had hoped to use for a comfortable future.
Now it felt like her whole world was crashing down.
“You sly wolf! We trusted you! How could you do this? You’re a monster! Give us back our money!” others yelled, getting agitated. But armed guards quickly pushed them back. Florence was the only one fast enough to leave a scratch on Chris’s face.
“The money is gone! I’ve already transferred it all overseas. You should just give up!” Chris revealed, his words cutting deep. The group felt a wave of regret wash over them. If they had known the truth, they wouldn’t have been foolish enough to believe Chris.
“Why would you do this?” Dahlia asked, confused. She had never imagined that Chris’s promise of capital growth was a scam.
Dustin had tried to warn them about the Nolan family’s financial troubles, but no one had listened. This was truly a disaster.
“That’s a slap in the face!”
“Why? Of course, it was for money! I’ll have women when I have money. You should all know this!” Chris snickered.

Chapter 53
Dahlia hesitated before asking, “So, the partnership with the Harmon family had nothing to do with you either?”
“That’s right!” Chris replied honestly. “My dad never called the Harmon family. They made the decision on their own. I just took advantage of the situation! The funny thing was, you all believed me without a doubt!”
Dahlia was shocked. It turned out everything had been a misunderstanding. Chris never helped her and even tricked her out of her money. The worst part was he claimed credit for everything while keeping her in the dark.
He had such wild ambitions!
But now she wondered, who had actually helped her if it wasn’t Chris?
