An Understated Dominance - Chapter 71
Dahlia turned and saw Dustin walking towards her. “What do you mean?” she asked.
“Your drink has been drugged. If you had drunk it, you would be in danger because it makes you defenseless,” Dustin said urgently.
“Drugged?” Dahlia frowned and looked at Matt. For a moment, his face went stiff, but he quickly regained his composure.
“Dustin, you must be mistaken,” Matt replied calmly.
“You would know best if I’m mistaken,” Dustin shot back coldly.
“Dahlia, do you really think I’m a malicious person?” Matt asked with a friendly smile.
Dahlia was surprised by his sudden question. After thinking for a moment, she asked, “Dustin, do you have any proof of what you’re saying?”
“The restaurant’s manager saw everything. He can be my witness,” Dustin said.
“That’s right! I saw it clearly. He spiked your wine with something!” the manager exclaimed, pointing at Matt.
“Everyone knows you two are working together. There’s no way I could deny that,” Matt said, shaking his head as if offended.
“Dustin, do you have stronger evidence? Don’t judge someone without proof!” Dahlia said seriously. She knew Matt well and couldn’t believe he would do something so awful.
“I already have a witness. What more do you need? Would you rather trust him than me?” Dustin asked, his frustration growing.
“I…” Dahlia hesitated. Matt was from the noble Laney family, and she found it hard to believe he could do such a thing. Yet, Dustin seemed very certain and wouldn’t lie.
In that moment, she felt torn between them.
“Dahlia, Dustin seems to have a bias against me. That’s—”
“I can prove I’m innocent. Didn’t you say I drugged your drink? Let’s switch drinks,” Matt suggested. He took Dahlia’s wine glass and drank it all.
This simple act removed all doubt from Dahlia’s mind. If he had drugged her drink, he wouldn’t have drunk it himself.
“Dustin, I don’t remember doing anything to upset you. Why are you so determined to insult me? If you have a problem with me, I’m truly sorry,” Matt said kindly, tilting his head.
With his charm and polite words, Dahlia believed Matt was a true gentleman.
“Dustin, what do you have to say for yourself?” Dahlia asked, looking intently at him.
“If I’m not mistaken, he must have taken the antidote before this,” Dustin insisted.
“That’s nonsense!” Dahlia’s face darkened. “Dustin, you’re going too far! Matt has proven he’s innocent. Why are you still being so difficult?”
“I’m telling the truth,” Dustin replied.
“Well, I think you’re just making things up!” Dahlia’s voice showed her anger.
It was clear that Dustin didn’t like Matt, but that didn’t justify ruining his name.
“If you still don’t believe me, check his pockets. There must be some evidence of white powder on him!” Dustin said, trying to empty Matt’s pockets to prove his point. This was the last straw for Dahlia.
“Enough!” Dahlia splashed the rest of the wine in Dustin’s face. “Haven’t you done enough damage today? Why are you being so stubborn? If you’re jealous of Matt, work on yourself and compete fairly. Don’t stoop so low.”
Dustin was shocked by Dahlia’s words. “You’re just using mean tricks and silly arguments to try to ruin my reputation. All you’re doing is making me think you’re pathetic!” she said.
