Chapter 10
Liberty made many sacrifices for love and marriage, only to face hostility from her in-laws in return. She dedicated her finances solely to their home, while her clothing purchases were made with money gifted to her by her sister, Serenity. Shopping trips were infrequent, and she rarely bought cosmetics compared to new outfits.
Despite this, whenever Liberty treated herself to new clothes or cosmetics, her in-laws would create a scene over her spending. Even when Liberty clarified that she used Serenity’s money, they insisted that it was a shared asset with her husband, implying she had no right to use it for personal benefit.
“Liberty, why don’t you consider enrolling Sonny in kindergarten? You could jumpstart your career and potentially earn just as much, if not more than your husband,” Serenity suggested, feeling empathy for her sister.
While Serenity had lived with Liberty and her family, she had taken on all the household chores to lighten her sister’s load. Now that she had moved out, Liberty found herself overwhelmed with responsibilities.
“Your brother-in-law suggested waiting until Sonny is three or four before enrolling him in kindergarten,” Liberty responded, expressing her desire to return to work. The family’s financial burdens, including a car loan, mortgage, and elderly care, were becoming increasingly daunting.

Serenity frowned, sensing that Liberty’s husband was treating her poorly, and it seemed to be worsening. She felt compelled to ask, “Do you think your husband might be seeing someone else?”
Taken aback, Liberty replied, “I don’t think so. I know his income; he doesn’t have the extra money for a mistress.”
“But your husband has been increasingly disrespectful towards you. You need to think about your future. Don’t become a misunderstood stay-at-home mom without an income,” Serenity warned.
Liberty paused for a moment before replying, “We’ll see. Don’t worry about me, Seren. I’ll be okay. How are you? When’s your husband coming back?”
“How long will he be away on his trip?” Liberty asked.
“It might take some time. He’s quite busy with his job at a major corporation,” came the reply.
Liberty then delved into a detailed inquiry about how Serenity was adjusting to life in her new home. Once she was reassured that her little sister was doing well, Liberty felt a wave of relaxation wash over her.
Having spent some quality time with her nephew, Liberty encouraged Serenity to head back to the shop.
As Serenity rode her e-bike toward the bookstore, her mind wandered to her sister’s chaotic life. In her distraction, she lost focus on her surroundings and almost collided with a car. Panic surged through her as her fight-or-flight instincts kicked in, prompting her to swerve to avoid the vehicle while simultaneously hitting the brakes.
The car came to a sudden stop as well.
Serenity quickly glanced at the vehicle—it was a Rolls Royce, a luxurious sedan!
Behind it, there was a line of identical cars, likely the bodyguards of the occupant in the opulent sedan.
In a bustling metropolis like Wiltspoon, luxury sedans were not uncommon.
Serenity offered an apologetic gesture to the driver before starting her e-bike and speeding away. There was no way she was going to stick around to face any potential reprimand.
Meanwhile, the driver turned to address the man dressed in black seated in the back. “Mr. Zachary, it’s the missus.”
Zachary’s expression shifted to one of concern as he observed Serenity nearly collide with his car. It was clear she had been distracted. Riding mindlessly on a busy street—was she trying to put herself in danger?
