Chapter 103
In a bold move, Serenity decided to share her sister Liberty’s diary pages on Twitter, responding to a viral tweet that criticized ungrateful granddaughters.
In addition to Liberty’s diary excerpts, Serenity presented evidence from their hometown, showcasing that their grandparents had been living quite comfortably after accumulating several hundred thousand dollars. It was clear that their children were among the wealthiest individuals in the area.
A thought struck Zachary; his dashcam had likely captured Old Mr. Hunt’s arrogant voice when he called Serenity while they were en route to Liberty’s for dinner. He decided to check the footage and discovered another vital piece of evidence recorded on the device.
Following this, Serenity uploaded the recording of her conversation with Granddad to the internet, leaving the online community to react with outrage, which was no longer her concern.
Zachary, however, had chosen not to give the Hunts’ file to Serenity for public release. Instead, he entrusted it to Josh, who would reveal the professions and incomes of the Hunts’ children and grandchildren while posing as just another netizen.
What had initially been a successful tweet for the Hunts quickly turned into a disaster for them. The same online users who had previously criticized Liberty and Serenity for being ungrateful were now turning their ire toward the author of the original tweet.
Amidst the chaos, Mike’s media friends swiftly deleted their retweets, fearing the backlash from the outraged netizens.
Serenity reassured Liberty, saying, “Everything’s alright now. You don’t need to worry anymore. They won’t come asking us for money again. The only reason they’d reach out is to apologize and beg us to overlook this mess.”
Feeling nauseated by the situation, Serenity expressed her disdain, while Liberty picked up her sleeping child and replied, “We’ve done our part. Justice will prevail; I truly believe that. Seren, you and Zachary must be exhausted after everything.”
After a long day of running around, it was clear that Serenity needed to head home and get some well-deserved rest.
“Go ahead and take Sonny to bed,” Zachary encouraged her.
Serenity and Zachary patiently waited for Liberty to return from putting Sonny down before they bid her goodnight and prepared to leave. The day’s events had certainly drained Serenity.
Once they arrived home, Serenity kindly asked Zachary, “Are you in the mood for supper, Mr. York? I can whip something up.”
It was true that a friend in need is a friend indeed. Zachary had proven himself time and again as a reliable partner whenever Serenity found herself in a tough spot. Yet, despite his unwavering support, there was no romantic chemistry between them. Furthermore, the six-month contract she had with Zachary left her uncertain about the future of their marriage.
Regardless of her feelings, Serenity recognized how much Zachary had been there for her, and she felt a genuine gratitude towards him.
“I’m not hungry,” Zachary replied, his dark eyes lingering on her for a brief moment before he added, “Get some early rest. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight,” she responded softly.
After exchanging their farewells, Zachary returned to his own bedroom while Serenity remained, watching as he closed the door behind him. The sound of the door locking made her chuckle softly to herself. They were, after all, just barely more than strangers.
He was fulfilling his role as her husband, but nothing more.
