Chapter 105
**Chapter 105**
Chris Hunt, John’s father, addressed Mike with concern, saying, “John’s job is priority. If he loses his job over this…” He trailed off, but the expression on Chris’s face clearly indicated that he held Mike responsible.
It was Mike who suggested turning the media against Liberty and Serenity.
“Uncle Chris, John has been with his company for a long time. His boss won’t fire him over something so trivial. I’ll make it clear that John has nothing to do with this situation,” Mike reassured him.
Since Mike operated a home business, the online controversies had no negative impact on his livelihood.
Feeling somewhat relieved, Chris decided to call John. He urged him to clarify his innocence in the matter to avoid jeopardizing his job.
“The girls are too much,” one of the uncles lamented. “If they didn’t want to pay, why did they have to drag us down like this?”
While the Hunts’ tweet about their ungrateful granddaughters gained some viral attention, it didn’t reach the extent they had hoped for. However, Serenity’s response caught the public’s eye, prompting a flood of calls from both friends and family.
Moreover, numerous strangers reached out to express their opinions, often critical of the Hunts.
Unbeknownst to the Hunts, Liberty and Serenity might have been facing cyberbullying, as their family found themselves at the center of a brewing storm. The backlash was palpable both online and in real life, with individuals showing up at the hospital to confront them. If it weren’t for the hospital’s security personnel, who were forced to intervene and threaten to involve the police, the Hunts could have faced the public’s wrath directly, possibly even enduring physical insults like rotten eggs.
Finally, one of Serenity’s aunts chose to speak up. “I wasn’t in favor of this decision when you all went ahead with it. Mom…”
Ten years ago, Dad made an agreement with the girls, stating that they wouldn’t owe us anything. But now, with Mom’s health declining, it feels like everyone is turning on Liberty and Serenity, pressuring them for money.
“It’s not that Mom and Dad don’t have us; we all have our own finances. As children, it’s our duty to look after Mom during this difficult time. Why are we putting so much stress on Liberty and Serenity? They’re not to be underestimated. Have we forgotten what transpired three years ago? You know the impact your actions had on the girls when their parents passed away. Do you really believe you can force them to pay by fabricating a story online? Consider this: who would face the biggest consequences if they retaliated? There are only two of them, while we’re a larger group.”
A heavy silence fell over the room.
The family united when it came to financial matters.
Now, as things began to unravel, they started pointing fingers at one another.
After a moment, old Mr. Hunt broke the silence, asking, “What should we do now?” He regretted reaching out to Serenity, never anticipating that she would record their conversation.
He continued, “We need to contact Serenity and ask her to take down the tweet. If this situation escalates, it won’t end well for us.”
“Mike, reach out to her and tell her to delete that tweet. At the very least, they shouldn’t be financially responsible for their grandmother’s medical expenses,” Mr. Hunt assumed the solution would be straightforward.
Mike, feeling defeated, replied, “She blocked my number.”
After a brief pause, he added, “I’ll send out another tweet from Grandmom and Granddad’s accounts to apologize to Serenity and Liberty. We could frame it in a way that shows Mom and Dad recognize their mistakes and regret their past actions. Now that they’re older and facing serious health issues, all they want is to reconnect with their granddaughters.”
“Thus, they found themselves taking such drastic action.”
“I refuse to apologize to them. Yes, we did sign the agreement, but it doesn’t erase the fact that I’m still their grandmother. Shouldn’t they come to see me when I’m unwell? Shouldn’t they cover the costs of my surgery?” Old Mrs. Hunt remained steadfast in her stance.
“Just ignore the negative remarks. It’s not as if the online commenters can do us any real harm.”
