Zachary lingered at the balcony door, observing Serenity in silence for a moment before deciding to head off to work. This brief moment went unnoticed by Serenity.
With his wife’s lunch packed carefully, Zachary made his way to the office.
Just before leaving, he called out to Serenity, “I’m off to work.”
“Drive safe,” she replied warmly.
Zachary closed the door behind him and made his way down the stairs, carrying two containers of food.
At the bottom, his bodyguard team awaited him, either standing, perched, or seated amidst the greenery. Upon spotting Zachary approaching with the food containers, they all rose to their feet, watching him intently. None dared to step closer.
Zachary found himself at a loss for words.
What was going on? Did they not recognize him just because he was holding lunch containers?
“Sir.”
Thinking quickly, Jim hurried over and took the packed food from Zachary’s hands with care.
Without a word, Jim made his way directly to the Rolls Royce.
Before long, the luxurious vehicle exited the neighborhood, flanked by the bodyguards’ cars.
Serenity happened to glance down from the balcony, witnessing the convoy of luxury sedans that was a common sight in their neighborhood. She also noticed her husband’s national MPV trailing at the end of the line.
It was wise to yield to the expensive cars rather than disrupt their lane. After all, an accident involving them would result in repair costs far beyond what an average person could handle.
This area seemed to be one of the most affluent neighborhoods, especially with a resident owning a ten-million-dollar Rolls Royce. Serenity couldn’t help but wonder how much Zachary had paid for their home.
While Zachary held a senior executive position at a prominent corporation, Serenity realized she knew little more than that. She had never inquired further.
Since Zachary was keeping his defenses up around her, Serenity worried that his mind would spiral if she probed into his work. After Zachary left, she took the time to water her flowers before settling down on the swing. With a moment to herself, she began to read the comments from netizens following her significant response.
As she scrolled through the comments, Serenity found solace in seeing that many were criticizing her relatives. Some netizens suggested that she should forgive and forget since the past was behind them and her grandmother was now frail and ill. However, she was heartened to see others rising to her defense whenever such comments appeared.
It was a reminder that one should never judge another until they have walked a mile in their shoes. It was unlikely that people would easily move on if they were in Serenity’s position. She believed that very few could truly put everything behind them, even though it was easier said than done.
After a brief rest, Serenity decided to head out. Naturally, her first stop was to visit her sister. However, when she arrived at Liberty’s place, she learned that her sister had already gone grocery shopping with her son and wouldn’t be back for a while. So, Serenity chose to make her way to the bookshop instead.
Meanwhile, in the COO’s office, Callum was enjoying a freshly brewed cup of coffee as he stepped out of the pantry. Just then, he bumped into Zachary, who had knocked and entered the room. “Zack,” Callum greeted, moving closer to him. Noticing the boxes of packed food in Zachary’s hands, Callum smiled and jokingly asked, “Are you here to deliver me breakfast, Zack?”
