Chapter 124
Serenity said, “Thanks, Jas.”
Jasmine smiled. “Don’t mention it! You’ve always closed up for the night in the past, so I’ve been taking advantage of you. I’ll feel better once I make up for it.”
Serenity accepted her friend’s offer, picked up the clothes she had purchased, and then bid Jasmine goodbye as she walked out of the bookstore. After opening the car door, she placed the bag of clothes on the passenger seat and told Zachary, “You can head home first. I need to stop by the market to buy some vegetables. If you can, please cook some pasta while you wait. Otherwise, just hold off until I get back.”
Zachary glanced at her e-bike and asked, “Where’s your new car?”
“I left the house later than usual today, and I was worried about getting stuck in traffic, so I decided to take the bike.”
Serenity put on her helmet and said, “I’m leaving now.”
Without waiting for Zachary’s response, Serenity rode off on her bike.
Zachary was left speechless.
Serenity often acted in haste, a stark contrast to Zachary’s calm demeanor.
Looking at the bag of clothes on the passenger seat, Zachary picked it up and rummaged through it. He noticed they were menswear and frowned, wondering, ‘Who did she buy these for?’
Checking the size, he found that all of them matched his and were black. Could they be for him?
His displeasure faded after some contemplation.
Zachary saw Jasmine exiting the store and greeted her with a nod before driving away.
As soon as Zachary left, Shawn arrived.
Jasmine was startled to see her cousin and reached out to tug on Shawn’s beard. “Shawn, I haven’t seen you in a while! Why have you grown such a long beard? You should shave it off. Don’t grow a beard at such a young age; you’ll look….”
“Have you been very busy and tired lately? You look quite haggard and fatigued. It’s good to work hard, but don’t overexert yourself. Remember, your body is a temple, and you need to take care of your health.”
“I’m fine, just a little busy with work,” he replied.
Shawn actually grew his beard for Serenity’s sake, though it wasn’t very long. Jasmine was simply surprised because Shawn typically had a clean-shaven face.
“Jas, is Serenity not here?” Shawn asked casually upon noticing his cousin was alone in the store.
“Serenity went home early to prepare a feast for Mr. York as a thank-you for all his help. Are you looking for her? You can tell me what it’s about, and I can pass the message along.”
“It’s nothing. I was just inquiring. Serenity mentioned she wanted to treat me to a meal, but I’m not sure when she’ll follow through on that.”
Jasmine laughed. “You two are close friends, so even ordering takeout could be considered treating you to a meal.”
Shawn fell silent.
He wanted to have a meal alone with Serenity.
“Jas, do you think Serenity and her husband, who married at first sight, will last?”
Serenity was Shawn’s first crush. Although he was younger than her, he believed he could take good care of her. When he learned that Serenity had gotten married, he felt lost and struggled to let her go. Therefore, he hoped for and looked forward to Serenity eventually getting a divorce.
“Mr. York can be cold, but he treats Serenity well. After living together for a while, they should develop some chemistry. If it doesn’t work out, they’ll likely divorce in six months since they signed an agreement.”
