Chapter 128
“Your husband, would you still say such a thing?” Zachary clarified, “Mr. York isn’t fond of Ms. Stone,” explaining himself to prevent Serenity from attempting to pair him with Elisa. “Aside from love at first sight, most people don’t expect to fall in love with their partner right away. Love is about mutual pursuit and gradually getting to know one another. As they grow closer, admiration and feelings will develop over time.
“Feelings need to be nurtured. Mr. York and Ms. Stone would be a good match since they come from the same social class. If they were to get together, it would certainly be a perfect match!”
“I work at York Corporation, and I know our boss always has his bodyguards with him and avoids young women. He’s not interested in them. Plus, our company and the Stone Group aren’t exactly on good terms, so how could he possibly be with Ms. Stone?”
After marrying Zachary, Serenity had never inquired about his position or salary at the company. They were just husband and wife legally and might not last long, so she didn’t see the point.
However, if Zachary ever brought up his job, Serenity would happily share her thoughts on what kind of person his boss was.
“Have you met your boss? Since you share the same last name, people might mistake you for his relative,” she said with a smile. “Jasmine has suspected several times that you’re related to that Mr. York, but I told her she’s been reading too many novels and confusing fiction with reality. The female lead always ends up marrying a billionaire at first sight.
“If it were that simple, every man would be a billionaire!”
Zachary thought to himself, ‘Ms. Sox has a good eye…’ Jasmine undoubtedly came from a wealthy family. To ordinary people,
The Soxes were wealthy and regarded as local tycoons. They earned hundreds of thousands each month from rent collection. It was this affluent background that allowed Aunt Rachel to marry into a wealthy family.
Zachary made a mental note that if he attended another dinner party, he would need to avoid the Soxes and the Lowes; he didn’t want them revealing his identity to Serenity. As the head of the Yorks, the richest family in Wiltspoon, he wished to disclose his true identity to Serenity personally, without interference from others.
“Our boss is quite busy. It’s challenging for me to meet him unless it’s for a formal meeting. After all, I’m not part of the company’s top management. Even if I attended a meeting, I would be seated at the end of the table. Additionally, my eyesight isn’t great, so I can’t see his face clearly.”
