Chapter 136
Darrell was uncertain whether his sister-in-law was alive or dead.
“Perhaps we’ll encounter your sister or her children by chance while on vacation,” he suggested.
After a brief pause, Audrey replied, “My sister was still quite young when we parted ways. Women undergo significant changes from childhood. Even if I were to meet her children, who’s to say I would recognize them as my niece or nephews?”
“Come on, let’s go on a holiday!”
Unable to dismiss her daughter’s enthusiasm, Audrey lifted her spirits and agreed to a beach vacation with Elisa.
Seeing her mother’s agreement, Elisa exchanged a knowing glance with her father and shifted the conversation to other topics. As she chatted, she recounted the events of the day.
“Mom, I saw Zachary today! He stopped his car and even rolled down the window to talk to me. Unfortunately, he threw out the bouquet I had stuffed into his car,” she said cheerfully.
Audrey was at a loss for words.
“I also met a new friend named Serenity. For some reason, she felt familiar the moment I saw her, almost as if I had a sense of kinship with her. She even helped me, so I left her my business card.”
Audrey inquired, “Is she the unfortunate woman who was morally blackmailed by her relatives?”
“Yes, that’s her.”
“What a small world! The news about both of you went viral simultaneously, and out of thousands of people, the person whose bike you stopped happened to be her. She even agreed to take you to York Corporation to pursue Zachary,” Audrey remarked.
Teasing her daughter, Audrey added, “What’s even more surprising is that you actually consider her a friend. Darrell, let’s keep an eye on the sky later to see if pigs start flying. I can’t believe your darling daughter—”
“I actually made a friend!”
“Mom!” Elisa exclaimed, clearly annoyed.
“What’s wrong with me having a friend? I really like Serenity. She makes me feel at home and even encouraged me to go after Zachary.”
Audrey felt helpless about her daughter’s crush on Zachary. “You’d forget your own name if it had anything to do with him.”
Yet, she couldn’t deny her admiration for Zachary. If her daughter were to win him over, she would be thrilled. There were only a few exceptional men like Zachary, and the York family was equally impressive. If their families united through marriage, it would not only resolve any discord but also ensure her daughter’s happiness for a lifetime. “When you have some free time, bring Serenity over so I can meet her,” Audrey suggested, feeling that her daughter needed more friends.
It was uncommon for Elisa to make a friend, so she was eager to meet the girl who made her feel such a connection at first sight.
“Sure! We’ll see if she reaches out to me first. I’ll bring her to meet you when we get closer. Wait, no. Mom, you’re making it sound like I’m introducing a girlfriend to you. I’m your daughter!”
Audrey playfully poked her daughter’s head. “You’re the one misinterpreting things. Don’t blame me.”
Elisa stuck out her tongue in jest.
She realized she might need to take the initiative to contact Serenity. However, she didn’t mind doing so. Since she liked Serenity, she was happy to make the first move, just as she did with Zachary. If she loved him, she was determined to pursue him and express her feelings!
