Chapter 142
Shawn found the Hunts to be truly unbelievable. Their shamelessness reached an entirely new level.
“Serenity, I recorded your conversation with them,” Jasmine said. “I’ll send you the voice recording in case they fabricate anything about you online again.”
Serenity gave her best friend a thumbs up. The Hunts had her so worked up that she forgot to record the conversation on her phone.
“Shawn, aren’t you going to work?” After sending the voice recording to her best friend, Jasmine noticed her cousin was still at the shop and urged him to hurry.
Reluctant to leave, Shawn replied, “I’m working at my family’s company. It doesn’t matter if I’m a little late.”
“On the contrary, you should make an effort to follow the company’s rules and regulations since it’s a family business. Set a good example so no one can criticize you. Hurry up; you know Aunt Rachel will be upset if she finds out you’re not in the office.”
As the eldest child, Jasmine’s aunt and uncle had high expectations for Shawn to eventually take over the family business.
Serenity added, “Shawn, you should hurry to work. If you don’t leave now, it’ll be time to clock out before you know it.”
Even though Shawn complained, he grabbed his car keys and headed out, reminding Serenity, “Don’t forget to buy me dinner.” “Of course. When have I ever broken a promise to you?”
Shawn left the bookshop with reluctance.
With Shawn gone, the bookshop returned to its usual tranquility.
Jasmine continued to read novels while Serenity focused on her crafts.
As noon approached and school was out for the day, she put away her tools.
Meanwhile, after business discussions concluded in the CEO’s office at York Corporation, Josh casually remarked, “Mr.
York, I heard that the missus’s relatives made quite an entrance when they arrived at her shop, arriving in several cars.”
Zachary’s dark eyes sparkled, but he maintained a neutral expression. Without raising his chin, he said calmly, “Serenity is her own woman. Those people can’t get their way just by showing up; she has her own strength.”
Noticing that his boss appeared unfazed, Josh wisely shifted the topic.
It had only been a short time since their marriage, and given Zachary’s naturally detached demeanor, it was likely that Serenity needed more time to capture his heart.
Oh, Serenity! The battle is far from over. Keep pushing forward! ‘You can do it!’ Josh silently encouraged Serenity, hoping she would soon win Zachary’s affection. It would certainly be interesting when that happened.
“Lunch together?”
Zachary signed the paperwork and set down his pen. He looked at Josh and declined the invitation, saying, “You distracted me from lunch.”
Josh was left speechless.
“You’re as nosy as a woman. I prefer silence.”
Josh was utterly stunned. How was he supposed to gather information for Zachary if he couldn’t delve into other people’s affairs?
