Chapter 153
His schedule is quite busy, and after a full morning of work, he returns home to find no lunch waiting for him. He is expected to prepare his own meals, as if he were single and had no wife.
“Hank covers the mortgage and household expenses while your sister stays at home, doing little more than caring for the child, who is quite easy to manage. Your sister spends her days idly, unaware of how fortunate she is, even having the audacity to argue with Hank.
“Hank is already under immense pressure, and while it’s understandable if she can’t help lighten his load, refusing to cook and leaving him hungry is unacceptable. It’s only natural for Hank to be upset; anyone in his situation would feel the same. Sharing expenses was a last resort. Your sister wastes money frivolously, blowing over a thousand dollars in just one day. Does she think Hank’s income is limitless?
“For a family of three, spending fifty dollars on groceries is more than sufficient, yet your sister demands a budget of one thousand five hundred dollars a month. Still, Hank generously provides her with three thousand dollars each month, and she has the nerve to complain about splitting costs.
“She has the ability to earn her own income, so she shouldn’t rely on Hank. While your sister may not care for him, we, as parents, do. What is the purpose of her education if she can’t contribute financially? Look at Chelsea; she has three children and still works to support her family.
“Your sister refuses to work because she wants to focus solely on childcare and expects Hank to cover her living expenses. Is she Hank’s child? Why should he be responsible for her financial support? Yes, he pays for her necessities, but she can’t even fulfill his basic needs or prepare meals for him. Does that seem like a wife to you?
“We have been nothing but kind and patient with your sister. Do you really believe anyone else would be as tolerant of her behavior? They wouldn’t.”
“I would have divorced her and kicked your sister out,” Mrs. Brown declared, her words striking harder than Chelsea’s.
Jasmine picked up a broom, feigning an effort to sweep the area. In reality, she was waiting for her best friend to signal her to usher the absurd mother and daughter out.
All the women present should be supporting one another instead of making life more difficult.
Seething with anger, Serenity glared and retorted coldly, “Mrs. Brown, do you think caring for a child is easy just because you have experience with Chelsea’s kids? Can you manage a two-year-old on your own?”
“Chelsea has three children, yet you and Mr. Brown are the ones actively involved in their lives. All she did was give birth. My sister gave you a grandson who carries your last name, but you refuse to help as grandparents. It’s ridiculous to compare Chelsea to my sister.”
“My sister could go to work and earn an income if you would help care for Sonny. In fact, she had a higher income than my brother-in-law before they got married.”
