Chapter 159
Zachary spoke all the right words to console Serenity, even if he didn’t fully believe them himself.
Despite his high position, Zachary understood that the standards for talent acquisition had become stricter. Liberty had been out of touch with society for three years, and although she had experience, her skills were likely to be rusty. Finding a job would probably be challenging for Liberty.
“Are you at work? Continue with your tasks. I’ll hang up.”
“Sure.” Zachary waited for Serenity to end the call.
After speaking with her husband, Serenity called her sister to discuss future plans. She only hung up when it was time for Liberty to start cooking. With her phone nearly out of battery, Serenity took out a charger for her device.
As the afternoon approached, Zachary called the manager of Wiltspoon Hotel to arrange for two lunches. He also ordered a few extra dishes to be delivered to Bookit, a bookstore near Wiltspoon High School.
The lunch was intended for Serenity. Knowing that Jasmine was at the shop and that the girls were best friends, Zachary ordered lunch for Jasmine as well. It was also a good way to gain Ms. Sox’s favor, so she would speak positively about him in front of Serenity.
Although taken aback by Zachary’s request, the manager did not question it and complied.
Serenity had just finished dealing with the afternoon rush when she received a special lunch delivery from her husband.
The manager of Wiltspoon Hotel personally drove to the shop to deliver the lunch. Upon arrival, he found students browsing for learning materials while Serenity was on her phone, ordering food delivery.
Serenity and Jasmine watched in surprise as the manager entered the shop carrying a basket.
“Excuse me, are you Ms. Serenity?” The
The manager asked politely. His gaze landed on Serenity, and for some reason, his instincts told him she was Ms. Serenity.
“Yes, I am. And you are?” Serenity replied, requesting the man to introduce himself, as she had never encountered him before.
As he placed the basket on the cash register, the manager quickly tidied up the area before retrieving the packed dishes to display. The last items to emerge were two platters of sliced fruits, which were complimentary desserts from the hotel.
The manager was unaware of who Ms. Serenity was, but he understood that she was someone important to Mr. York. Otherwise, Mr. York wouldn’t have personally called him. The complimentary fruit platters contained the finest and most expensive fruits the hotel had to offer.
Serenity and Jasmine exchanged puzzled glances. Why was there a food delivery when they hadn’t ordered any takeout? The food looked quite sumptuous, and it came with dessert. Most importantly, they couldn’t identify the delivery source since the delivery person wore no uniform or logos.
“Ms. Serenity, I’m the manager of Wiltspoon Hotel. I received a call from Mr. York not too long ago, who ordered two lunch sets to be delivered to you. Mr. York has already paid, so please enjoy your meal. If you find our food satisfactory, we would appreciate a five-star rating.”
Oh, so Zachary had ordered the takeout for them.
It was surprising to see the hotel manager personally deliver the lunch order.
Tilting her head, Jasmine looked at her best friend with a smile and a hint of envy in her eyes.
It was quite thoughtful of Mr. York; he was becoming increasingly kind to her best friend.
