Not only was Elisa’s family opposed to her pursuing Zachary, but her best friends also urged her to let it go, arguing that winning over Zachary would be a difficult endeavor. Additionally, her family and the Yorks were business rivals.
Only Serenity encouraged her to take a chance.
Elisa confided in Serenity, considering her a trusted confidante.
“I wouldn’t pursue Mr. York, no matter how brilliant he is, if he were married or in a relationship. I consider myself a good catch, so I don’t need to steal someone else’s partner. The reality is that he’s single. Now that I’ve found someone I’m interested in, I must take action and try. Even if nothing comes of it, I won’t regret having made the effort.”
Elisa expressed her feelings openly.
Serenity was aware of Elisa’s confidence, but she recognized that Elisa had the right to be self-assured, spoiled, and willful. To Serenity, Elisa seemed like an ordinary lovesick girl.
It appeared to Serenity that Elisa was in a good place emotionally,
with a clear perspective on life.
Serenity had heard some gossip about Mr. York when she attended a dinner party with her best friend the other night, and she knew he was single.
The heir of the Yorks was always surrounded by bodyguards to prevent any young women from getting too close.
He never gave any young women a chance. Nevertheless, Elisa boldly expressed her feelings publicly, making headlines alongside Mr. York.
“You’re not wrong, Ms. Stone. Everyone has the right to seek true love. As you said, Mr. York is single and has no girlfriend in sight. You’re single and without a boyfriend as well. It’s neither illegal nor unethical for you to pursue him. It’s perfectly normal for you to act this way.”
Elisa nodded in agreement.
“Serenity, you’re the first person to ever give me the green light to pursue Mr. York.”
She smiled, finally understanding why Elisa had come to find her. Elisa wanted to confide in the one person who had always supported her when her friends and family did not.
“Serenity, have you ever dated anyone?”
“Me? I went out with a guy once in college, but the relationship fizzled out when we went our separate ways after graduation.”
Many student couples ended their relationships and pursued different paths after graduation, just like Serenity and her first love.
“Um… who broke it off? Do you know how to make the first move with guys? Share some of your strategies with me.”
Serenity replied, “Well, it was more of a puppy love situation for my first relationship. It ended almost as soon as it began. It wasn’t a matter of who initiated it; we just started spending time together and developed feelings for each other.”
“We went to the mall and enjoyed nice meals together. We graduated before we could even hold hands. After that, we split up and went our own ways.”
Elisa was momentarily speechless before she managed to respond. “That’s terrible, Serenity. Your relationship ended before you could even hold hands. It’s like it never truly began.”
“It was regrettable. Since graduation, my dating life has been nonexistent.”
“That’s okay. I’ll be single with you.”
Serenity laughed. “I don’t see anything wrong with being single. I have my freedom. Once you get married, family becomes your responsibility. It’s not as enjoyable as being single.”
Just like her sister.
Although Serenity was no longer single, she had signed a contract with Zachary for a marriage of convenience. Since they were not allowed to disclose their marriage to anyone, Serenity felt that her life was not much different than before.
