Chapter 170
“I created the maneki-neko, but when Ms. Stone unexpectedly visited me, she saw it and immediately loved it. I thought since we live together, I could make it up to you at any time.” Zachary’s expression darkened as he fixed his intense gaze on her.
Serenity asked hesitantly, “Are you upset, Mr. York?” Zachary frowned and replied coldly, “How can I not be upset when you gave something intended for me to someone else without my permission?”
To make matters worse, Serenity gave it to Elisa! Did Serenity realize that Elisa was pursuing her husband? How could she give away his maneki-neko to her rival?
That was quite generous of her!
Serenity stopped checking her phone. Holding her plate of mac and cheese, she approached Zachary while eating. She sat down beside him and said sweetly, “I’m sorry, Mr. York. It’s my fault. I’ll make it up to you tomorrow. Please don’t be mad.” Zachary shot her a grim look.
His lips were tightly pressed together. Since he still seemed angry, Serenity pushed her plate of mac and cheese toward him. “Why don’t you have some of my supper?”
Zachary grimaced. “How can you expect me to eat something you’ve already taken a bite of?” He had a bit of OCD when it came to sharing food and refused to eat anything that had been touched. “I only took a few bites. If it bothers you, forget it. I’m hungry anyway.” Serenity quickly withdrew her hand and returned to her mac and cheese. “Honestly, I’m a great cook. I can make a simple plate of mac and cheese taste amazing. Well, your loss.” “Let’s not change the subject, Serenity. We’re discussing the maneki-neko.”
“I gave it away. You can’t expect me to ask for it back from Ms. Stone. She mentioned she’s going on a beach holiday with her mother, so she probably isn’t in the city anymore. Plus, I don’t know where
“Ms. Stone lives here.” The homes of the wealthy are expected to be opulent and fitted with top-notch security systems. Even if Serenity knew where Ms. Stone resided, she likely wouldn’t get past the gates.
“I’m sorry. It’s my fault; I shouldn’t have given Ms. Stone the maneki-neko that was meant for you without consulting you first. She said it was beautiful and that she really liked it, so I gave it to her. How about this, Mr. York? I’ll give you two more—one maneki-neko and a golden dragon. What do you think?”
She needed to remember not to give away items intended for him; otherwise, he would be furious. It never occurred to her that he was so principled. Fine, it was her mistake.
The tension in Zachary’s jaw began to ease. “It better not happen again.” When she gave away things meant for him, Zachary felt she did not value or care for him. Speaking of which, Serenity hadn’t even noticed that the suit jacket he had just removed was a gift from her.
Normally, she was sharp and perceptive, but today, it was as if she were oblivious. Even Josh could see that Zachary was dressed differently today. Yet, despite living with him, Serenity seemed unaware. As frustration grew, Zachary’s previously relaxed features began to tense up again.
Nodding, Serenity promised, “There won’t be a next time.” She wouldn’t dare make that mistake again with someone so principled. It took an extra dragon for him to let this issue go.
Although her crafts might not hold much monetary value, Serenity dedicated hours to creating them.
“Mr. York,” she began, almost finished with her meal. Stealing a glance at Zachary’s still agitated expression, she faced a difficult decision. “How about you choose a design you like, and I’ll make it for you?”
Is it exclusively for you?
