Chapter 171
Chapter 171
As Zachary glanced at Serenity’s pasta dish, he felt a wave of frustration wash over him. There she was, enjoying her meal, while he sat beside her, troubled.
She seemed so heartless. Their relationship was unlike other couples; it was a marriage of convenience, devoid of any emotional connection.
Suppressing his irritation, Zachary asked glumly, “Isn’t Ms. Stone the heiress of Stone Group? Why did she reach out to you? How do you know each other?”
Zachary pretended to be ignorant, even though he had gotten the information straight from Elisa and never mentioned her to Serenity.
Serenity began to recount how she met Elisa, and her story matched Elisa’s version perfectly.
“Ms. Stone confided in me about her feelings for the heir of the Yorks. Her decision to pursue Mr. York wasn’t well received by her family, and she felt down. She asked me for advice on how to get closer to him.”
Zachary raised an eyebrow.
Did Elisa really seek Serenity’s help to win him over?
With a straight face, he asked Serenity, “What suggestions did you give her? Have you ever pursued a guy?”
“I lack experience. My first relationship ended before it truly began. I’m pretty much a novice when it comes to dating.” Tilting her head, Serenity looked at Zachary and added, “But I’m still better off than you. You’re even more inexperienced than I am. Haha. You flinched when I touched your face. You act as if I’m some sort of creep.”
Zachary grimaced and shot her a disapproving look. Serenity chuckled before returning her focus to her plate of pasta, even licking up the last remnants of cheese sauce. Once finished, she patted herself on the back. “My mac and cheese is the best.”
“Let’s have pasta tomorrow.”
Huh?
Zachary reached out to poke her forehead before reprimanding her. “Aren’t you trying to get me to eat because you keep bragging about your mac and cheese? Fine, we’ll have it tomorrow.”
Serenity swatted his hand away. “I’m pretty good at cooking. Your family said my food was delicious. Alright, I’ll make you some pasta tomorrow if that’s what you want.”
“Did you give Ms. Stone any tips on how to win over Mr. York?”
“I guess so. I taught her everything she needs to know to get Mr. York’s attention. She should play the damsel in distress along the route he frequently takes. I’m sure he’d come to her rescue as long as his heart isn’t made of stone. They would have a chance to spend time together if Mr. York extends a helping hand.”
“Feelings develop through bonding time. All they need is a moment alone. I don’t really know what Mr. York looks like. He was at the party Jasmine dragged me to, but he was surrounded by a crowd. Plus, he had a group of bodyguards, so I didn’t get a chance to see him up close.”
Serenity kept her focus on Zachary as she spoke. “You can’t even meet your boss at work, let alone outsiders. If I had a say, your boss is far too proud. He won’t give Ms. Stone the time of day. I’m sure he’d fall for her if he got to know her.”
Zachary struggled to suppress his anger. Maintaining a calm demeanor, he replied coldly, “My boss will never fall in love with Ms. Stone. Serenity, you’d better stay out of it. If my boss ever finds out you’re the one advising Ms. Stone on romance, he might take his frustration out on you. Your bookshop could end up closing down. Not to mention, your husband could also lose his job.”
Serenity blinked in surprise. “Is your boss really that petty? Everyone…”
Everyone has the right to love. What’s wrong with Ms. Stone having feelings for him? I’ve heard that no one has ever asked him out, and he doesn’t have a girlfriend, despite being older and practically a middle-aged man. Since Ms. Stone took the initiative to pursue him, it shows he has his own appeal. He should be grateful to Ms. Stone for that. What kind of reasoning is this?
