Chapter 173
Chapter 173
“I have a suggestion, but since I’m on Ms. Stone’s side, I can’t share it with you.”
Serenity picked up her plate and utensils, stood up, and walked to the kitchen. Zachary quietly observed as she disappeared from view.
After a while, he got up and approached the kitchen. Leaning against the door frame, he asked seriously, “You’ve only just met Ms. Stone. Why are you already on her side?”
“Ms. Stone and I may not know each other well, but I’ve never even met your boss. Who do you think I would support? Ms. Stone is my kind of girl. What’s wrong with cheering her on in her pursuit of Mr. York?”
“Your boss must be quite the catch. Just wait until Ms. Stone has him wrapped around her little finger. He’ll be all over her! Hahaha. This could turn into an entertaining story—I could write a book about it!”
“I have plenty of free time at the shop. If my online business sales aren’t great, I might as well try writing a book. It could be another source of income. I bet a story about Ms. Stone pursuing Mr. York would be a bestseller!”
She was certainly focused on making money.
Was the allowance he gave her not enough?
It seemed like generating revenue was all that occupied her thoughts.
“My boss won’t be swayed by Ms. Stone.”
“I stand by my boss,” Zachary replied.
He was getting better at lying; it had become second nature.
“How about a bet? Let’s wager on whether Ms. Stone can win over your boss. What do you say? If you win, I owe you three favors, as long as they are within my capabilities. If I win, you’ll take care of the laundry, cooking, and cleaning for two months—that means all the house chores are your responsibility.”
Zachary quickly accepted the terms. “Let’s put it in writing so we can sign it. I don’t want you going back on your word.”
Turning around, Zachary was preparing to draft a wagering contract.
Despite Zachary’s confidence in creating the contract, Serenity began to feel uncertain. Although he had no opportunity to get close to his boss at York Corporation, he was more knowledgeable about Mr. York than she was.
While many men would find Ms. Stone difficult to resist, could Mr. York withstand her persistent flirtations?
There was another consideration. What if the York heir had a different preference, as she suspected? Perhaps he leaned toward men, which would explain why he was rarely seen in the media with a woman. He would likely be impervious to Ms. Stone’s advances.
“Mr. York! Mr. York!”
After getting wrapped up in her thoughts, Serenity hurried after Zachary and asked, “Are all the people around your boss men, Mr. York? Specifically, is your boss’s secretary male? Is he handsome?”
With his dark eyes shining, Zachary replied in a low voice, “What’s wrong with hiring a male secretary? Many executives have them. The ratio of male to female secretaries is roughly equal.”
Serenity had an epiphany. As Zachary grabbed a pen and paper and sat down to draft the contract, she threw herself onto the table to keep the paper from moving. She also snatched the pen from his hand.
Raising an eyebrow, Zachary looked at her with his deep, dark eyes.
“Um… Hehe… Uh… Mr. York, we don’t necessarily have to put this in writing.”
Zachary smirked. “What? Can’t handle the pressure?”
“That’s right. I can’t. I’m not sure. What if your boss prefers attractive men or has issues in that area? I would lose. Maybe we shouldn’t finalize the wager.”
Zachary was left speechless.
He liked men?
