Chapter 183
Serenity said, “Not at all, Nana. I’ll let him know tonight. Are you having Callum drive you over tomorrow, or should we come pick you up?”
“I’ll have Callum drop me off, probably in the afternoon. He sleeps until noon on weekends,” she replied. Her grandsons needed their much-deserved rest on weekends, and Grandma May often allowed them to sleep in.
She planned to arrive at Serenity’s place in the afternoon. “Alright then. What do you feel like eating? I’ll prepare dinner,” Serenity offered. Since Grandma May was coming in the afternoon, her lunch with Shawn could proceed as planned. Still, if Grandma May arrived in the morning, Serenity would bring her along to the luncheon, but it didn’t matter since Serenity was buying lunch anyway.
“I love your cooking. Your food is the best,” Grandma May said. Having tasted Serenity’s dishes, she privately noted that her eldest grandson was fortunate to have such a talented cook at home. The whole family cherished Serenity, but Zack’s mother, Tania, was less enthusiastic due to Serenity being an orphan from a rural area.
Grandma May had addressed this concern with her daughter-in-law several times. Their family was wealthy enough that they didn’t need to elevate their social status through strategic marriages. All that truly mattered was the happiness of the children.
Tania refrained from expressing her opinions in Grandma May’s presence, knowing how much her mother-in-law favored Serenity. However, in private, she would complain to her husband, lamenting that while Grandma May considered Zachary her “golden child,” she still had him marry an orphan from the countryside. Tania believed that Serenity was a hindrance to Zachary, as it would be challenging for someone from a rural background like Serenity to fit in with the elite ladies of their social circle.
Brothers and cousins marry proper high-born individuals. Serenity, however, would not receive the respect of her sisters-in-law. Fortunately, Tania discovered that her son had signed an agreement with Serenity. She felt relieved knowing that if the couple did not develop any feelings for each other, they could part ways after six months. Tania understood her son well; Serenity was not the kind of person who could capture his heart. Even an heiress like Elisa lacked the qualities needed. For Zachary, marrying Serenity was merely a duty to repay her for saving his grandmother’s life. Tania had refrained from expressing her discontent with Serenity, allowing herself some flexibility. If her son genuinely fell in love with Serenity, Tania would eventually accept her as a daughter-in-law. Nevertheless, she would need to guide and mentor Serenity to ensure she wouldn’t embarrass Zachary at social events.
“Don’t let me keep you, Seren. I’m meeting an old friend soon,” Tania said. “That’s all for now. Just remember to talk to Zachary; I don’t want him to find fault with you.” Knowing her grandson’s desire to stay informed, Tania reminded Serenity to keep Zachary in the loop.
Serenity smiled in acknowledgment and waited for Grandma May to hang up. She found herself wondering how Grandma May had persuaded Zachary to marry her at first sight. At Wiltspoon General Hospital, Old…
Mrs. Hunt underwent surgery yesterday, and it was successful. However, she will remain in the ICU for a two-day observation period before being transferred to the general ward. The rates for the ICU are quite high, and combined with the surgery fee, the daily bills have placed a significant financial burden on the Hunts.
